Here are a few pics I got from the Saloon practice race:

This is me following Grae into the banked corner (which I has some issues with later) when suddenly an Audi comes out of no where sliding out of control in front of me. I was rather entertaining to watch actually:

This is Brad in some mad yo' drift action in his Audi. Who says 4wds can't drift. (it seems like they were doing a lot more then the RWDs in this race)

This is another shot of Brad making a smoke screen to hide from the Jag. Around lap 3 Brad seemed to become very angry at his tires and felt the need to punish them severely.

I saved the replay and have a thumb drive now, so i'll get some up of all the races i saved tonite. I believe that despite Brad's valiant efforts, i may have kept my crown as the GRM Doriftu Olympian.

Disagree!!!! Watch the last corner of my lap 3... I start my drift about mid-way down the last straight, Scandinavian flick the opposite direction, go through the final corner at WOT, off onto the grass on the outside of the main straight, cut through the pit entrance and continue going.

Despite the epic drift, I do believe that the test revealed that I need a different car. Driving in anger with other drivers on track gives you a benchmark... and the RS4 didn't meet it. On paper it should have everything... 648hp, 1400kg, 50/50 balance.... in practice, it was so hard to drive.

I may run the Merc hammer just to piss off the M5s (although they sound badass).

I hate the m5 sound. Nascar racer with a roundel. That has been my fastest car in testing, but i will not run it. Thinking of the jag still as an alternative.

Brad, your l3 last turn had me laughing\cheering out loud when i saw it.

ROC annoyed me. I don't know if the lag was on my end or Graefins(probably mine, since I got disconnected near the end of the race*) but I passed him at one point, only to have him show up out of nowhere and slam into my side. Damaged both wheels on the left, the brakes locked up and I went boom at a corner. The real clincher was crashing shortly after coming out of the pits on lap 2. I should have parked it like TJ, or at least tried to keep going, but I was pissed because the car drove great all through practicing and then went to crap once the race started .

I dunno, I'll still use it online, and share it, see if any of you like how it drives.

GT testing made me feel better though, the extra weight really seemed to help the DB9 through the corners. I think the fastest I did was either a 1:41 or 1:40, and then I focused more on finishing in 2nd.

Saloon was hilarious to watch, you had 4wds out drifting Rwds, my Commodore was rock solid through the twisties. Had some decent back and forth with Airs teutonic poop machine for second place, he had corners where he was faster, I had corners where I didn't slide, ended up in third, which is fantastic considering how I finished in the last series. I think Graefins using nitrous in them bimmers.

Best part of the night, the Overpowered Ruf driving school meant my tires were in great shape after 5 laps in both races.

*My landlords cousins have moved into his basement, everytime they're here, the internet screws up royally. I don't know if they're berkeleying with it or what(I think it's their E36 M3head kid) but it's annoying as all hell.

The jaaaaaaaaaag sounds incredible, but what worked reasonably well in testing with it didn't work so well on Moonshiner's Run.

I may test it on some of the tracks we'll be running and see if that works.

In practice (offline), the XKR runs 2:39 at MSR.

For Saloon, I am going to make the rash decision and run the C63... in 3 laps of testing, it was more predictable, consistent and faster than the RS4.

If anyone wants to try out the RS4, let me know... I'll send it, as long as you promise to give it back.

Ben, are you now?

Well I was working on my buddy's minitruck so I missed out on the fun. I wanted to run the ROC but I couldn't go around a damn corner without getting sideways but the F40 was fast, I figured give more of a challenge being RWD on that track I did want to do that Saloon and GT practice though, but I figure there's more haha

Well, I think I may run the M5, still unsure yet for Saloon...for GT I think I am positive although I did do well in my Supra in practice.

The weird thing is, not messing with drifting much, I find the 4WD much easier to drift then the 2WD.

The 4WD's were taking really weird lines through the corners, like they were going for really late apexes, but it totally killed their speed.

It looks like the saloon races are going to be very close (baring mistakes of course). Not sure about the GT, since Grea ran away with it. Of course I realized after the race I was running Sport Softs, so I might give him a bit more competition next time.

The first race is basically a land speed event with turn arounds. So I am not sure we will learn much from that one.

The Gallardo WAS hairy on that track. I messed with it for a few hours thinking i was going to run it, and was VERY surprised when the RWD LF-A was much easier to handle.

Go figure.

I also think i could have broken 2:30 in my GT car on Race Softs.

I still can't believe how fast the RX8 is on the straight. Conventional wisdom of rotaries not having torque would have said that i would have been all over you in the Supra.

But that RX8 LOOOOOVES to drift third gear coming out of corners, doesn't it? I could never get that tuned out of mine which is why i ended up not running it.

ROC: Grizz, I want to address your perspective that I hit your car. I watched the first two laps about 6 times from different perspectives and this is what my screen shows. With the perspective from above your car, my car is in front of yours. Then it shows your car jumping about 3 feet to the right followed by the impact with the wall. It never shows contact with my car nor do I recall any contact with your car. The only consequential contact my car made was with Air's Ford GT. Too bad you couldn't have saved the replay to tell us what it shows. Several times I have seen some bizarre occurances that could only be caused by lag or some other glitch. Anyway, sorry you had problems. Believe me, I know the feeling.

This is the first race since I started racing with you guys back @ Daytona in Series 2 that I INTENDED to win. I knew I had a capable car that was relatively easy to drive and was easy on tires. I also had run two online 10 lap races to check possible lap times from start to finish and be sure of tire wear. Everything looked good . . . until the grid was set. I ran a 2:26.6 qual. time which was .3 better than my best in practice and was really surprised to be gridded on the next to last row. I had practiced starts and since the ZZII has 4WD the best launch is with max. throttle. Well I blew it and had to try to work for positions. The first contact was when Air's front end washed out when he turned down underneath me and caught my RR fender causing a quick slide which I quickly caught. If there was any damage it wasn't much. All went well until I saw Air run wide @ the top of the hill after the first jump and got by him by the bottom of the next hill. Since I couldn't see him. I took an inside line going into the muti-apex turn and he cut down on me with his RT side catching my LF corner causing Pit stop worthy damage. I was so pissed I started to just call it a night. However, I've never intentionally quit a race since I started and didn't really want to quit this one. I suddenly recalled Grizz saying that if your car is pulling one way to damage the other side. I knew I didn't have anything to loose so coming out of the multi-apex I did a nice firm glancing blow to the RF corner and walla, driveable. The only problem was the top speed wasn't there and the front tires were wearing quickly. Also, the formerly planted, easy to drive, car was now squirrly. As they say in motorcycle road racing, "I put my head down" and went for it. I tried not to slide much to be sure to have some tire left @ the end. I knew that Air and Apex could possibly have a late race incident and I wanted to be available if they did. So it went until the end. I really pushed on L10, knowing that I could just make it with my tires. Apex entered the last turn in 5th. instead of 4th. and ran straight into the guard rail. I saw smoke coming out of his helmet as I drafted by for 2nd. by about .8. I think his first comment after the race was "grrrrrrrrr". I know the feeling Apex.

For our two practice races I've got to admit, I really went for it. It's true, all of us are getting better and gaining more confidence. I loved watching the GT race replay. What a colorful group of cars. Grizz, I particularly like the AM. You definitely did the right thing by leaving the hood white. That car also looks so planted and driveable. You have been getting stronger and stronger in your driving and should do well with that car. I really liked seeing the Green Supra running so well with the later model cars. Good choice Toyota guy. The monochrome yellow BMW looks cool too. I like all of the cars and the diversity is great.

Neither of my cars should win SS7, unless I'm the only one to get my braking points right. I knew that when I chose them. I was totally surprised at how the RX8 did there and it was my "pick-em" second choice. The Lexus ISF was my second choice in Saloon. That was a hard decision.

edit: It was actually the R hand turn BEFORE the multi-apex turn that Air caught my LF corner. I lost it trying to see if I could drive the thing going into the multi-apex and ran into the wall on the left. That's when I started looking for a place to "heal" my car by running into the guard rail with my RF.

Crap. I was hoping I did not damage you. I knew you were on me (that's actually why I ran wide because I was trying to keep an eye on you), but as you mentioned you disappeared to the inside and I was running out of road, ideas and a tendency to oversteer. I seemed like a light tap. I thought you got one of those cheap ramming penalties since you were on the inside.

Anyway, sorry about that. I intentionally try to give you as much room as possible since you have always been very courteous. In retrospect it would have been better to back off, let you pass, and see what sort of duel we could have. Both of us blowing past Apex would have been great fun.

As noted, I had front damage at that point already, but having a wheel, it is MUCH easier to deal with (you kind of forget about it after a while actually)

Graef, i'd be interested in seeing a screen shot of your setup on the ZZII if you don't mind...

I used the car extensively in GT4, but i've NEVER been able to make it handle worth a damn in GT5. It'll stick a corner, but understeers like crazy if you're even 1mph over the "threshold." It also seems to have a much lower cornering speed than many other cars.

But dddaaaaaaammmmnnnnn it's fast in a straight line.

I was so mad that i got distracted and stuffed the Pink Lexus into a wall on lap 6. I'm still 100% sure that i could have gotten around you if i had kept paying attention. I kept waiting for you to pit, because i could tell you had damage when i could see you juking back and forth on the straights up ahead.

The Green Supra needs more tuning... i just slapped a ballpark set of suspension settings on it that i usually default to. I'm VERY sure it would run a 2:30 at MSR on Race Hards. (Really.) The car handles beautiful, very stable, and has plenty of grunt, despite being overweight for the class.

Air, after watching the replay from different perspectives I no longer felt that it was in any way intentional. I imagine that you, like me, just don't have the peripheral vision to tell exactly where anyone else it. Unfortunately, we're going to bump each other from time to time. It happens to all of us. Before the last race @ Daytona I thought I'd found a solution for that. I set up L, R, and Rear View up on my rt. stick thinking that I could bump the stick get a quick view and know what to do. However, the truth is it makes me dissoriented to do that. I don't know if it's just an individual malady or have any of you tried to do that. In GT2 & 3 I used to use rear view all the time to block or force a faster car to "bump draft" me but man, I actually had an off course @ Daytona trying to get a left side view. The screen I use to drive on is the one where all you see is the instruments, no car. No, it's not realistic but I got used to it in GT3 and I'm stuck with it.

Air, I just hope I continue getting a chance to run in your vicinity. I knew if you and Apex got out front on that track that it was all over.

Hey, does anyone know what the pole time was for the ROC??? Yalls some bad asses is all I've got to say.

I figured it was more on my end, what with getting disconnected later. It was about the same for me, only your car was the one that jumped ahead. Doesn't really bother me, I don't think I would have been able to keep that thing going for a full 10 laps anyway. Still, I managed to get a couple of my crazier cars to calm down, so a net benefit for me.
