GRM New Years Game 2022 (ooh ooh)

My box arrived at a healthy 21lbs, from forum member "Mostly Human." This was a great box, and you should be a proud gifter.  My family loved it.

Upon opening.  Nice, I don't have utah yet.

I unpacked the contents, and started organizing for pics.  Some good stuff reveals itself.

Filed under Misc. That is a real metal badge, non-ferrous. The single battery is not for the flashlight Sweet 850!

This strange fellow may have a story behind it.  Rabbit with no rear legs, and walleyes.  My daughter loved him.

Various media. I have not seen either movie, and will watch them.  Even if it is in fullscreen.  Turbo Volvo article a coincidence? I doubt it.

Got my box.y wife even texted me a picture of it. She never shows interest in my car activities. She lol'd. "I feel bad for the mailman. That was heavy. He had to lug that thing up the driveway."

Great items. I have to do a full inventory tomorrow.

And, I feel like I didn't hold up my end of the bargain. I need to up my box filling game. Shoulda warned a guy.

After getting my box out in the mail finally I opened up mine, this arrived last week from Wisconsin!  First look some wire, movies, mug and plastic container.

Looks like corks from some tasty drinks.  Old parts were cool, especially the vintage RCA tube

Well! A package arrived late Monday. My wife retrieved it and announced “I think it’s from (redacted)! It certainly was. A rather well-known fellow that we've had the good fortune to meet. The box arrived with only one corner open, but I don’t think anything escaped. Let’s see what’s inside!

First off, greasy bags of hardware! I like hardware, so this will be stripped and cleaned and sorted. While a Cadillac - Miata drivetrain certainly sounds intriguing, I don’t have that kind of time right now.

Miscellaneous wire and some wiring protector, both things I keep and use.

A paint can opener. This is one of those tools I only get to use once, because once I open the can of paint I can never find the opener again.

A sweet Jensen 66W amp  (no 6x9s though)    Sorry, no REO tonight.

Low voltage sealed connectors. Could be useful. Will have to try one.

A sweet Accel coil. Bought a few of those in my previous life.

Some air/fuel fittings - I will use these for a future air line expansion.

And some commemorative fastener-holding cups!

On to the second load:

Always a favorite; stickers! (including an Interstellar Sledgehammer one - Wow!)

Two dicast Cadillac cars. The HotWheels one has artwork showing the car doing a front wheel burnout, which gave me pause.

A “Hotsystem” tachometer, still in the box.

A can of black Plasti-Dip, which honestly I’ve been meaning to buy for like two years but I never remember to. I have several tool handles that need dipping.  Thanks!  

Valspar Implements paint brochures, which are actually cool. I spent many years sitting on a Ford 5000 tractor, so I like tractor stuff.

The blue box in the middle is kind of like a Lego set for a billboard that you can stick your business card in. It even has a little patch of green “ground” to stand on. I was briefly able to look inside the box before it was snatched from my hand by my wife. She has plans for this evidently.

The Bernzomatic torch head is very cool because mine is small and plastic, although many years old. This head is solid metal and would probably take down an elephant. Neat!

Lastly... a stick? It’s wood, and is shaped, but for what purpose I can only imagine. I’m trying to imagine nice things, though!

A sheet of photo negatives that appear to have been taken from a boat. I'll admit to being very confused, but it's definitely different...

Next up was something a good bit more familiar- 3 Hotwheels, including one of my DMC-12. I had to wonder (since having bought a case of the original release of them and including one in every box I've send out for the gift exchange) if this was perhaps one that I'd sent out that had made its way back to me. :P

Next up- some miniature light bulbs that I'm frankly shocked didn't get broken, a very hefty hunk of aluminum, some Miller welding charts, a neat sticker, and some wire/fishline (that we actually could have used over the weekend when we hung a few things we got for Christmas).

This was honestly one of my favorite things from the box, because the cheap HF bench vise I'd had for a while broke a while back and I've not had one and this looks to be the perfect size. I'm sure it was also 90% of the mass of the box!

Next- several rolls of tape (including a bit of LEGO tape, which I've also sent out a few times in these boxes...), severeal mystery chunks of wood, a wall hook, sticker, and what looks to be the hood ornament from a Ram truck/van- which The Dancer (who was observing my opening the box with a mix of confusion and concern) decided she needs to turn into a trophy for when we play Catan with her family (as due to some initial confusion we refer to the sheep/wool resource instead as goats...).

A pair of HF safety sunglasses, a small vise clamp (likely for welding), an old wood-handled screwdriver, and a very large (but somewhat shockingly -not- the largest I own...) combo wrench.

A hefty grounding strap, some random coax splitters and connectors, a flashlight, what looks like the belt from a belt sander, and by far the largest Bowie knife I now own. Seriously, that thing is about worthy of a line from a Paul Hogan movie...

And finally- 3 bags of cookies, which unfortunately didn't fare the best with all of the hefty chunks of metal in the box with them.

The "belt sander" belt is actually a roll of emery cloth. It's wonderful for cleaning up bearing surfaces.  The Negatives are B&W photographs of Prince William Sound, AK; I took them on my trip up there in 2019. You can have them scanned into digital format if you'd like, or just put them in a frame as is...

Ah, OK. I wasn't sure exactly what it was, so a sanding belt made the most sense. Thanks!

My package delivered yesterday, quickly followed by a text from the wife saying 'this thing is REALLY HEAVY.'  I thought she was just exaggerating, until I got home.  Nope! 59lbs of GRM goodness all the way from California.  Kudos to whomever you are.  You clearly outdid yourself!  
 

full disclosure- my pictures are poor because wrangling a 3 year old in the presence of A MILLION BOXES OF POPPERS.  This will provide endless toddler-level entertainment for the year.

The goods in no apparent order or schedule- 

Golf kid took particular enjoyment from the mini whacky wild inflatable arm person, the chocolate, the snaps, and the "people whacking stick".  Took me a minute to figure out quite a few things, bravo!  Had to explain to my wife the shirt meaning, which she quickly rolled eyes at.  
 

all in all, a great time!  
 

BUT WAIT, you say.  All of that stuff for sure definitely doesn't add up to 50+ lb.  What was the boat anchor, you say?  
 

well... if you guessed a (I think?) Miata head... you'd be correct-

Input encouraged if I'm wrong, I'd love to know what it belongs to, haha.  I got a big chuckle out of it, and can't wait to add it to my broken/junk statue in the garage when the weather gets warmer. 
 

all in all, an excellent box.  10/10, would do again!!! 
 

I am sad I had to sit out this year (finally moving home) BUT next year I should have a box of lovely questionable crud to ship out!

Crud. I just found a stack of stickers that were supposed to go out with my box.

Oh well, the start of next year's box has begun!

Came home to a very big box in the post. I had a lot of help unpacking so I may have missed documenting a few things... little hands and all.

Some cool vintage magazines, the ads alone are tripping me out. several cool hotwheels that were claimed by little hands. 1/2 in drive impact I will have to try out and consider if I need a third one. ;-)

Several multi tools I had to keep out of small hands, Drill bits, spoke wrenches, casters, so much stuff. Tubing bender.

There is also a cordless glue gun that I manged not to get a picture of that is a legacy item. I almost forgot the vintage pilots flight log and Tampa bay British car club badge that is supposedly my best clue to my sender.. I have not sluethed it out yet, but all is fair in GRM new years game. Thank you as of yet anonymous GRM Mega Dork.

Funny that you've been meaning to buy plasti dip. I bought that about 7 years ago intending to use it but never did.  I'm not sure of the operating condition of that torch head so don't get too excited. Lastly that stick is from a genuine Model T wheel.

There were discussions that because of your close proximity, we could drop Lil Stampie's Audi in your driveway.  Put the title in a flat rate box and sit it on the roof.  This plan was approved by two other GRMers.  I like you too much to do that.

Also Home Depot paint openers double as bottle openers if you use the other end.

Head is a B18B1 from a front end crashed DC4 Integra I bought to flip quickly. It ended up taking 4 years. Crash damage included a chunk out of the engine on driver motor mount side so I found some engines cheap on Craigslist. When everything was said and done I ended up with 3 heads and 2 blocks in bins in my backyard which somewhere along the line had water intrusion. I sold 2 of the heads and this was listed for parts or porting practice but my son’s been on a decluttering tear and I figured it be hilarious to send someone half an engine. 

Cute assistant! Wishing I had included more poppers now.

Glad you like it (and glad it survived the journey). It's my first year in the "game", so I didn't have a good starting stash of random stuff, but I did have some spare engine parts and a concept...

I might make a second one for myself out of the other piston.
