I totally agree. The AI is asinine.
It is crazy to think they spend 5 freakin' years developing this and the AI cars might as well be a parade of wildly early braking slot cars.
Have you had the experience of an AI car spinning you then slowly pushing you sideways down the track? Not stopping, not turning, just slowing pushing you like you were a blade on it's racetrack snowplow. The AI seems to be almost completely unaware of any other cars.
Another thing you might notice as you restart a race over and over, the AI does the exact same thing each time, there seems to be no variability built in.
It also amazes me that although they put in a reasonably good experience points system they saw no need to actually dock some experience when you do something stupid. An Enthusia like system could have easily been added. Enthusia's system is not perfect, but it certainly will make you drive a lot nicer than the bumper car driving that GT encourages.

Seriously, WTF were they smoking when they made GT5? How did they take this long to make GT5 worse than GT4? Sure, the graphics are better, but the gameplay took a turn for the worse in my opinion. I've only been playing it for a while, but there are a ton of new things that are driving me bonkers!
- No qualifying. This really sucks when you start at the back of a pack of VW busses and have to be COMPLETELY past the first place bus to take the position. I should have saved the video!
- AI is officially retarded. The cars are constantly doing things that would get ME disqualified in a test and are generally stupid. The early braking and PIT maneuvering is particularly frustrating.
- WTF is a museum card, and why do I want it?
- Having the same jack ass hang out in the race track every 200 feet and wave his hand doesn't impress me.
- The load times are absolutely ludicrous. Why is my Nintendo faster than my PS3? Sure, the graphics are great, but if it takes a minute to load the track they damn well better be.
Maybe I'm jaded as I spent so much money on this stuff with expectations that it would be the next big step (as GT3 and PS2)...but they're not.
