Not sure where to put this. But any guess on value for a 74 Ford 302 and a 72 C4 transmission?
I am thinking about buying a car, engine and transmission can come part of the package or not. So just trying to see if I want to make an offer on whole deal or just the roller.
I assume old, used, unknown condition but "ran when pulled?"
Also assuming for a car and not a truck/bronco...
$300-800, depending on how complete
There is a combo local to me for $450. I'd offer $300 or so.
I wouldn't go any more than that unless I could hear it run and see it move under it's own power.

C4 gearboxes are getting hard to get because the cores are running out. Tried to get one for the Molvo when the AOD did not pan out.
Yeah, '74 model year 302's were not much power wise. Low compression and flat cams. IF the bottom end is sound then a simple cam swap and either later 5.0L heads (GT40 or GT40P) or aftermarket ones will boost power quite a bit.

In reply to Somebeach (Forum Supporter) :
I just sold a 66 mustang C4 with dipstick tube, crossmember, converter and driveshaft for $250.
Was pulled ten years ago for an aod and sat in storage so the assumption was it could need a rebuild but it probably is gtg.
Cast iron is about $25 per ton just now, Clean aluminum quite a bit more. If you take it apart, melt the steel inserts out of the aluminum castings, you might get upwards of $50.

I can find roller cam 302s in the junkyard still, and they charge $150 +$50 for a core. I wouldn't pay more than that.
C4s are rarer, though.
C4's are around 250 for a core in my area. If anyone wants a core I'll cut you a deal to get it out of my garage! 302's seem to be between 200-500 for a might run.
this spring when I did my swap I spent 400 for a wrong c4 and an engine that hadn't ran in 25 years. Then spent 300 for a c4 that turned out to be a steal at that price.
