Last night, I played LA Freeway and Dublin Blues on guitar while the wife was finishing packing for her trip. This morning I played some Guy Clark songs while I was in the shower. I get to work and my wife texts me that he had passed away. Talk about creepy.
Guy has been one of my very favorites ever since I saw him in concert with Joe Ely, John Hiatt, and Lyle Lovett. I knew of the other 3, but not Guy. Guy stole the show, and I've been a huge fan ever since. I ended up meeting two or three of the co-writers of The Guitar (one of them being Verlon Thompson, the other guy in the video) and got to see Verlon perform it to a crowd of 20 people in a song-circle.
Guess I won't be getting to see him after all, that's a shame. I finally found his music last year, and it still amazes me.

(The Cape)
one of my favorite songs
That was the first song I ever played for my wife on guitar.

Such a huge songwriting talent. Texas 1947 is one of my favorites.

I discovered him after being introduced to Jerry Jeff Walker's music almost 20 years ago. I became a huge JJW fan in short order, and you can't be a JJW fan without being a Guy Clark fan too.

He was one of my favorites, especially when he teamed up with Townes Van Zandt. (Pancho and Lefty is superb). He will be missed.
This was supposed to hit the film festival circuits next year. I hope it still gets finished.

Supposed to be coming in October.
I also picked up on Guy Clark's music through Jerry Jeff Walker's covers of his songs.
Desperados Waiting for a Train always reminded me of the old men I grew up around in Northwest Texas.
LA Freeway is a long-time favorite, as well.
Todd Snyder and John Prine pointed me his way a couple years ago on Pandora, as well as Slaid Cleaves, Hayes Carll, Louden Wainwright III, Jerry Jeff, Chris Knight, etc. . What surprised me the most was it took me so long after finding Townes Van Zandt to find these guys and that good country/folk sound.

In reply to revrico:
They are all great. I would also suggest Jeffrey Foucault and Robert Earl Keen.
In reply to Gary:
forgot to list Keen, I'll have to check out Jeffrey Foucault. Since the little one loves music so much, youtube is always on. New things are nice to find.

I think Guy Clark (and Townes Van Zandt) would wholeheartedly approve of the new generation carrying on the tradition.
