So, the H2 channel was shuttered and replaced with something else I don't really want to discuss. I do want to discuss how H2 was my go to for the worst TV available, and one of the main reasons I pay for cable. Here is just a short list of winning programs:
Ancient Aliens,
In Search of Aliens,
America Uncovered,
In Search of the Lost Giants,
Hangar1,
Ancient Impossible,
UFO Declassified,
UFO Files,
UFO Hunters,
Legend of the Superstition Mountains.
I'm really not sure what I'm going to do at this point. Science, History (actual) and Destination America still have some similar programming from time to time, but I don't think any channel before or after will have the same critical mass of horrible, awesome shows like these.
you're aware that there is a SciFi channel aren't you?
also, the removal of this channel is a conspiracy

Ahh, I think the history channel died when they even considered airing conspiracy theory based shows to drum up ratings. I miss the days when it actually aired historical documentaries aimed at making you learn something......
They should have commissioned a show about canoes.

Plenty of horrible TV shows, but also plenty of good ones. Plus there is a MST3K channel.

I love love loved tales of the gun and histories mysteries. Modern marvels to.
"America Unearthed" was one of the worst shows I have ever seen. And I watched "Shasta McNasty".

www.comettv.com - Check for a local affiliate for you. They play the finest in cheezy sci-fi and horror from the '50s through the '80s. Seriously, like The Thing With Two Heads and plenty more like it. My wife is beginning to regret pointing it out to me.
I googled what happened- and it appears that whoever History is basically decided that bailing on H2 and giving that space to Vice was better than trying to find the handful of people watching the channel.
When it was History International- at least there was some other history shows there, but once it became H2- it was for second runs shows or stuff that was not good enough for the regular History Channel.
For us- that channel has been out on it's own, a few from BBCAmerica- which at least has original programming to draw you way out there. H2 never really had much good going on there.
Not sure what Viceland will turn out to be. They claim to be for the hipsters, but were showing movies from a decade or two before the current hipster crop were born.

I could handle conspiracies, and old school all day WW2. The non stop run of reality on H1 is E36 M3 though.
I'm a fan of Ancient Aliens and I have even read Chariots of the Gods.

If and WHEN I ever perfect my time machine, the first thing I will do is make sure whomever the inventor of "reality tv" happens to be is never born....or at least make sure they don't have a warning label to not drink bleach during childhood.
I sincerely miss "Tales of the Gun" but it probably wouldn't pass today's PC garbage.
History and H2 used to be awesome. I also enjoyed Tales of the Gun, Voyages, and a ton of other shows that were on there. Recently, it had a lot of crap, but there were some shows I really enjoyed, like How The States Got Their Shapes and 10 Things You Don't Know About (with Henry Rollins!!!). I was not happy with the channel change. The conspiracy crap they had on there was sort of entertaining, I guess, but the good stuff I will definitely miss.
History is even worse. It's all staged reality TV crap now. My least favorite on there is Counting Cars. I don't know about you guys, but if that Undertaker-circa-2000-lookalike putz came up to me while I was driving my car that I spent who knows how much time putting together and started badgering me to sell it, I would probably end up in jail! Glad it's all fake though.

I used to love on the weekend when syfy would run crappy made for tv movie marathons like Megacroc vs dinoctopus but it seems like they have a lot more real shows on now. And that makes me sad.

The first time I ever heard of a reality TV show was in the late '90's. I worked at a production company at the time and a guy came in wanting to do a clip to audition for some show they were thinking about called Survivor. I knew from that point on that the human race was doomed. An exec from CBS was talking about what they were going to do with all the "free" digital air time that was going to be available, and the best way to fill it was with shows involving "normal" people. I suppose he was right in his prediction, and the TV landscape has changed enormously since then.

... by aliens, obviously.
Essentially, they were doomed when they stopped showing history on The History Channel.

So what's that say about MTV?
Comet TV is an interesting channel. I have rabbit ears and get that channel. They showed some seriously bad crap on there.
What is that Pluto.tv?
I believe the origins of reality TV goes back to MTV's The Real World. They had no money and putting cameras on a bunch of almost not payed, hormone filled, bored, generally drunk, late teens with little scripting, seemed like a good idea. You make anything and it's almost pure profit!
Vice does some pretty decent investigative reporting (which is super rare these days) on their HBO show, but I would not get to confident on anything they do that has any political aspects, if you know what I mean.
Ancient Aliens is a cool show to watch and learn how to edit information to make it sound factual.
Remember when it was the HitlerChannel? Good times.

You guys remember Discovery Wings? That was another cool channel. They had Wings over the Luftwaffe, which was fascinating.
