My daughters senior year of high school had a major highlight this year. She was part of the Jenison Marching band that performed in the Macy's Day Parade.
Pretty cool opportunity for a smaller west Michigan school.

We were on the front edge of the sidewalk at 5am on 6th ave to see the parade. Quite the experience

Excellent! I had a couple Star Wars friends in the parade last year, dressed as First Order stormtroopers. I heard stories afterwards, the cold, the pace they had to keep (stop then almost run in costume to catch up). Hope the kiddos had fun.
My wife’s friend has been one of the people keeping the balloons tethered to the ground. Not sure if she did it this year, though.

That's cool!
Brings back memories... I was in a marching band in the Macy's Day Parade back in prehistoric times!
I can't imagine the staging area!
Awesome - my daughter did marching band. It's more involved than you think!

I love it! That sounds like a great experience which is what life is about.
As an unexpected band parent (wife and I knew nothing of band ourselves) whose younger son "found his people" in the school bands - I will be forever grateful. And supportive of other kids trying out music if they don't love other activities.
I endorse it 100 percent more than youth sports where lunatic parents ruin most of it.
