it works well. But you do need space for the racks. Everyone also has shoe racks in their closets. Everyone gets 2-3 pairs at the back door and the rest goes in their closet.
Repurposed a book shelf
If the shoe rack won't work, consider a big bucket/basket to dump them all in. Sometimes easier for kids, adults with ADHD, and slobs like me.
We have a pair of these IKEA Hemnes cabinets in our entryway hall, right next to each other.
Each large drawer / bin holds 6 pairs of regular adult men's shoes no problem. Boots are more of an issue, but they fit on their sides, although only a few pairs will fit in each drawer.
The shallow top drawers are great for holding EDC stuff.
