There have been several weird things I've encountered, but the one that sticks out the most in my memory is being several cars back after merging onto the highway traveling southbound and having to brake hard enough to activate ABS. WTF is going on?!? Then I see a skinny barefoot guy in a hospital gown running across 3 lanes of traffic to the grassy median. On the shoulder is an ambulance stopped with the back doors wide open. I'm assuming the medics had no interest in pursuing the guy playing real life Frogger and called in the cops.
Sure, a Dewalt toolbox. It was laying in the middle of the road, so I stopped to pick it up. It contained two drill/drivers and several batteries along with bits and such. They all had the kind of markings that you would expect from a business, and sure enough, there was a road crew about a quarter mile down the road. I pulled up and told them that they must have dropped this off one of their trucks. They denied any knowledge of it and would not take it from me. I don't use Dewalt, so it went on CL. Odd.

Second weirdest was also on an offroad rally, I quickly rounded a corner onto the same street as my navigator's house. Out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw a guy at a bus stop having an argument with the bus stop sign. I asked my navigator, "Dean, was that guy arguing with a bus stop sign just now?" He calmly answered something to the effect of "Yeah he's crazy as berkeley" and moved on to the next instruction 
Just recalled a fun detail about this, the guilty smile and wave the guy gave me just as I passed and he realized he'd been caught arguing with a bus stop sign See also: The 1991 movie "The Lunatic"
