Update - we made it Saturday with no issues. Waited in a mile-long registration line (note to self - prereg next time!). That wasn't too bad though since the sights were, ah, interesting and the line did move at a pretty good pace.

My daughter had a great time and is dead set on cosplaying for the next one. About the only way I'd consider that is in a 501st uniform or something but that is some coin/time I don't have to spare so I'll just stick to being the accompanying dad for as long as that lasts.

No sweaty teen hugs, those seemed reserved for the cosplayers, but I did see more under-age skin than I was comfortable with. Lots of well executed costumes as well but seriously, is wearing a "modest" bikini with a 2-foot furry tail and furry boot things really a costume/cosplay?

If it is (or you want it to be) a slow Monday for you - http://forums.ohayocon.org/index.php?showtopic=2882

On a related note, I just finished watching Akira. Cool film! Really great animation, and a brilliant soundtrack.

Never really did get into the whole anime thing, though I loved pokemon "before it was cool" as well as InitialD. I do love me some Full Metal Alchemist though.

When you'd gladly pay $20 for a home made bootleg of Akira? Or when getting all the copies of BubbleGum Crisis cost 9 thousand dollars (at least it seemed like it?) Or the mythical rumor that Vis translated Nausicca into English?

Yeah, I remember those days.

ROFL! My copies of Porco Rosso and Nausicaa are like that.

And yeah, I still have them, too. Somewhere around here, I've got the DVDs..but I still watch my wretched VHS copies when I drink & get nostalgic.

And some of the bi-lingual Japanese folks working at my favorite restaurant say some of the old "fan-subs" they've seen have better translations than the commercial products. Riko-chan (my favorite waitress, before she decided to return to Japan) asked why Americans translate "shinigami" as "soul reaper" instead of "death god" when old Bleach episodes air on Adult Swim, and why people begging the gods for mercy in English dubs of damn near any show here use the singular tense, instead of the plural one.

Gotta admit, Bleach is SWMBO's favorite show at the moment..she loves the fansubs (they're about 100 episodes ahead of the dubbed versions that air on TV over here).

Fansubs have ALWAYS been better then the commercial/TV stuff. They can be more . . .liberal with words.

Mrs. Zero HATED subtitles until she sat down and watch them all the way through . . . something about "WOW, they leave a lot out in the dubbed versions . . ."

I used to hit up ComiCon when I still lived in SoCal. Now that I live in MO., I have yet to look up any cons.

I used to get hooked up with tickets (Sometimes I'd get 4day passes for free) because my friend Mark was friends with Erik Larson and he'd help at his booth.

You are onto the secret behind my account name

I really did name myself after that song in BGC. One of my all time favourite Anime. That and the twisted timeline that is Gall Force (also by Konichi Sonada)

ooh, BGC, I always loved Episode 4. Was always a car dork.

At one time, I held the dubious distinction of having held the most offices in my college anime club. Was Treasurer, Librarian, and President at different times.

ROFL! So true, so true. My daughter always wanted dubs, until I discovered "Card Captor Sakura". The place where I worked at the time was showing the US market edited dub, but on our Latin America feed, we were showing the unedited Spanish dub. Looked (and sounded, even though I still don't understand Spanish very well) so much better that I bought the sub version on DVD when it first arrived in the US. She didn't care for it.

Shortly after that, I managed to get some VHS fansubs of Captain Tylor, and she learned to read subtitles looking over my shoulder as she wondered why I & the neighbors were laughing so hard as we watched it.

She woke me up early the next morning..she'd found the dusty old CCS Volume 1 DVD she'd previously ignored, and begged me to buy the next one for her birthday. It was so much fun that I bought a new DVD volume each payday.

And that's how this rough old guy has the complete collection of CCS on DVD. Don't be a hater..

Patlabor is one of the best movies I've seen, animated or not. The US dubing is amazing. Even more so that it was dubed in the mid ninties!

I've watched it twenty times or so, and still can't figure out whether or not Tylor did it by accident, or on purpose. Eh, doesn't matter. "Come together, just think of tomorrow.."

speking of names that we use.....Cko from project Ako the movies.....and i use the sacranoid to descibe the cute sidekicks that are in anime that have no real use or powers......the kid and monky to start with.....the other cute sidekicks that can be very annoying or amusing on how they arte treated.... and then there are the sacranoids with teeth.....they are the really cute charaters that might have some powers to kick you butt or meybe even really do some damage. mini-may from gunsmith cats, sakura from CCS....just a couple of them. i have to say i have had Cko forced on me as muse for writing and other things...some of the stuff i write has here taking over here and there.....but trying to find here to even write it a pain in the butt.....she is to busy chasing anything cute in a skirt....sigh..... (drags cko from of screen and tyes her to a chair and gags here after listening to her screaming and yelling about draging her away from a date to work on something....) see what i mean(as she is still yelling around the gag....
