Going to see Hyundai steel being made. Looking forward to it, I was there a year ago and really enjoyed experiencing the culture and the food! (I'm now an avid fan of bip bim bap). Outside of Seoul, I was really aware of being a minority, as the only blonde in our group I had people openly stare and little kids actually pointed and laughed. Interesting feeling. It's going to be a whirlwind week of visiting r&d centres (sigh) but there's one afternoon on the schedule devoted to site seeing. I'm on the hunt for more steel chopsticks (they don't use wood) and some of that marvelous red pepper paste.

Enjoy the trip, but please be careful near the border!

Thanks Woody - I don't think we're going near the border this trip. Last year we visited the DMZ, it was eery.

REI has these and I love them. They come apart like a billiard cue and come with a travel pouch. They are stainless on the back but they have wood tips for grip.
Have a safe trip! Sounds like fun.

Ooooo, I love those. Will have to look for some! Thanks, I'm traveling with a small, but great group of people. Should be a good (if hectic) trip! Been living out of a suitcase all summer, after this I've got two weeks at home to recharge.

Have a great trip. I'm a little jealous. My daughter is living there, and I miss her.

Enjoy. My friends blonde daughter spent some time in Central America this past summer, and was...the center of attention, shall we say.

Watch the KimChi farts...

LOL, that's too funny... I described kimchee to my friends as being "potent". You haven't lived until you've eaten it for breakfast.

My father hasn't been back to Korea since 1953 and the thought of kimchee still turns his stomach.

Have fun.

S. Korea has these spas that you need to look up. They're inexpensive, but they're really nice. I learned this from a friend that taught English in S. Korea for a year. Just be comfortable in the nude around other people. You'll get stares, but it's because you're a foreigner.

I'll be visiting Nth Korea soon, should be interesting.

Think I'm gonna have to pass on the nude spas, tempting as it sounds. These press trips keep you on a fairly tight itinerary - you may get to experience some culture, but it's generally through the window as you drive by.

I visited the DMZ last year, it was interesting if a bit chilling.

I hear that they've recently added a nude DMZ. You'll get stares, but that's only because you're a nude foreigner in the DMZ.
