Aldi has the best prices around me. Still not a value item though.

How much are you paying? They go on sale for 99 cents each all the time at Kroger. That plus a 79 cent can of tuna and some fixins ain't bad. At $2, I'd much rather have that than a big mac.

Aldi has them once in a blue moon for 50 cents, occasionally at about 80 cents, and usually they're around 99 cents. Kroger/Wallyworld/Meijer is pretty standard at 99 cents each. My problem is that whenever I see them I end up with about 10 of them. More if I'm gonna make guacamole.

EDIT: Whenever Aldi has them for 50 cents, they're tiny.

I see them for like 3/$5 around here. Food prices are a bit more expensive out here, since it's tough to get to. The roads that are awesome for a Miata or motorcycle are a pain in the ass for a semi truck.

I have a microwave at work. As well as a shared refrigerator.

I do not have a microwave at home, although I could probably find one for a decent price. We don't have a whole lot of countertop space though.

I used to live on basic pasta salad in college; ate a lot of it as post-workout meals, too. If I were doing it now, I’d start with a protein-fortified pasta (Barilla Plus tastes good). Just boil up a pound or so of rotini, and add some diced pepper, onion, and some chicken or tuna. Sauce can be olive oil and vinegar, or some mayo, or some Italian dressing. Add oregano or basil or whatever herbs you like. Red pepper flake if you want zesty.

It gets better the longer it sits in the fridge. Total investment probably $5-6 for 4 big servings.

For years I lived on weight gain protein powder shakes. Between all the road biking/running and just general 80 hour weeks it was one of the few food I could get down at my desk or the few times I was in the car.

Its not cheap though, about 2.50$ a portion if you are shooting for ~500 clean calories if you really shop around. Also it gives you the worst farts that you could conceive. I would doctor it up with nutella and natural peanut/cashew butter to up the calories when I need to gain weight.

I still keep a big tub of it on my desk for when I cannot get out to lunch or dinner and I am going to work late.

Define "fresh". I know a place in Smyrna where I can get sushi-grade tuna. Would it work with that?

Also don't forget about the nutrition pyramid.

Awww, I love you too, but purely in a gay way. Here's the recipe. We use the wasabi PASTE instead of the powder, and LOTS of it. We also do a ton more tabasco, to taste. It is REALLY good. Avacado, Lettuce wrap, and baked chips are all good vehicles for it:

Cliff bars are awesome. I'd say cut out the bacon and spend the time you are taking to prep those to bake about 4-5 chicken breast every 2-3 days. You have a nice source of lean protein that is A) filling and B) way better for you. Throw some lemon juice and spices on to them and let em bake for 30 minutes on low heat to keep em nice and juicy and eat as is (sauces that aren't hot sauce are generally bad for you as they contain high fructose corn syrup). There you have a solution to lunch dinner for a couple of days.

Raw veggies are great sources of healthy calories too. Carrots, broccoli, spinach, and sugar snap peas are a key component of my diet. Very filling as well. Pineapples and strawberries are alternatives to apples and bananas and very good for you as well.

I'd ditch the cream cheese unless you just can't live without it. Replace the OJ with Grapefruit Juice (not as much sugar-better for you-more antioxidants).

Honestly it's surprising you are having a tough time gaining weight with the beers, cream cheese, chees sticks, bagel and peanut butter in your diet. Another idea is adding some instant oatmeal in the mix.

I work swing shift as well and eat about 5-6 small meals a day to keep steady at my current weight and provide me enough energy to work, get two work outs in, work on my projects and deal with the family. It's all about taking the time to prep your food and wanting to do it. After my morning work out I start the day with a glass of grapefruit juice, a protein shake, a piece of fruit, and a bowl of oatmeal or some go lean crunch w/ almond milk. The other meals throughout the day consists of fresh fruit and veggies (spinach salad w/ carrots, almonds, raisins, broccoli, etc), pineapples, strawberries, apples, maybe a PB&J every now and then, a chicken breast, some avacado (natures butter!), or leftovers from dinner the night before.

Chick peas are another great source of a healthy fat and protein.

Oh and one last thing to my super long post. Make a big batch of chili. Red beans, navy beans, chick peas, black beans, your meat of choice (maybe lean ground turkey or chicken), some hot peppers and spices, and bam a high protein, delicious, healthy meal that you can heat up and last you a long while!

Not really. He seems to be the type that is pre-disposed to being skinny. Add a physical job on top of it and keeping weight up can be a challenge. Back when I was in high school, in gym (PE) everyday, playing hockey 4-5 times a week and caddying on the weekends I couldn't keep my weight above 160 and was eating about 5000 calories every day. Probably 2000 of that was empty calories, and none of it was particularly healthy. FWIW, I am now the same height and weigh 200. Ideal weight for me is 175-180. I should probably cut out about 500-1000 calories and I'd be down to 175 by summer.

One question though: Why do you want to put on the weight?

Not trying to gain. Just not lose more and run into a point where I get lethargic at work because I don't have much energy reserve.
