While it's going to be 0 overnight tomorrow in RI, overall, it's been a cakewalk compared to last winter so far. I'm not a skiier/snowboarder, so I'm not complaining.
That said, I got caught in a snowstorm on Saturday while riding cyclocross and it was beautiful. It was followed by a 54 degree rainy day, though. 54 and 0 within days of each other--WTF?!
All I know now is I'm glad I no longer have to deal with Maine winters.
Winter is finding its way back to Georgia, right as the heater isn't working in the DD. I know the problem, just a pain to get to.
Saturday we had freezing rain and frozen snow. Fun driving.
Today lake effect snow, temperature dropping like the New Years Ball.
Finally got cold and snowy here, high of 10f, it was 7 when I got up. The more traveled roads were textbook black ice, like wishing I had opted for studs in my Altimax Artics bad.
Kenny,
How are those Artics doing on the ice? I bought the same tires for the RAV4. We had some ice on the driveway yesterday, but it was gone before I had a chance to try out the new tires.
12F here this AM.
Near 50 in Vermont yesterday, and it is forecasted to hit -1 tonight and -15 on Wednesday. It's nearly ice racing season though.
Today's high, 58. Tonight's low, 35. That's my kind of weather. Tomorrow, 64/35. Wednesday, 55/37. Thursday, 35/21. Winter!!
By next Monday, 70/50.
This is actually fairly typical for us. I just like some cold to go with my R months.
There was icy on the road and standing ice on my car, in San Diego. It's cold, was 48 in the house this morning when I work up.
In reply to Dr. Hess:
They're pretty good so long as it isn't glass smooth stuff, and even then a whole lot better than any "all season". I recall one of my first tests I challenged them to was to climb what looked to be at least a 30% grade sidestreet covered in hardpack that had glazed over in the sun, about 20*f, hit it in 3rd around 20mph, maintained speed to the top, didn't notice any wheelspin.
calling for up to an inch tonight.. of course the stores are empty of milk, bread, and eggs
Good. I had some Graspics on my Rolla and they were very good when fresh. Of course, now that I have 4WD and Artics, we will probably not have any ice at all this winter. That's fine with me.
25 today. Wednesday it's supposed to get down to 1. 1 berkleying degree! No snow or anything fun like that, just bone chilling, furnace straining cold.
I'm ready to move to Florida. Does the GRM home office need an in house locksmith?
In reply to mad_machine:
Try the store towards the bad side of town, I've found that only suburban white people freak out about snow.
only 1 supermarket in town.. and no little mom and pop stores.. they all got driven out of business
Be careful what you wish for.
Ugh, not super cold for you northern folk, but i think out windchill was in the single digits this morning.
I know that sounds pansy, but keep in mind in July/August it will be 90° at 6am.
tomorrow night …. 4°
that's winter enough for me

Forecast to barely get out of the 20's for the next 4 days. Flurries right now, although not much accumulation. Fortunately, I managed to get in early enough to get garage parking.
Our predicted 5"-8" last night turned out to only be 3"-4". Still a good test of the 4wd + AT2s on the Vitara.
Winter experience at -25 degrees F. Leave work at 5:30 pm. Wearing warmest parka, LLBean full length goose down, stocking hat, leather gloves w/insulate. Ice starts to form on facial hair close to nose and mouth. Snow squeaks under foot, car has been sitting since 7:00 am. Unlock door, (WD 40 last fall), get in, seat is hard as concrete and of course very cold, close door. See breath in car as I insert key, turn key (tumbler is stiff), starter engages, turns engine over slowly, (checked battery, charging and starting systems last fall), engine starts hesitantly, then smooths out. Sounds of clattering and squeaks from engine as thick fluids are forced to move. Wait a minute for sounds to subside. Defrost mode and fan on, cold windshield frosts up instantly from moisture from breathing. Scrape inside of windshield, shift into low (shifter is very stiff), and move off. Tires, suspension and steering bushings are as hard as rocks. Shock fluid and P/S fluid thick. Car feels like my race car, I can feel every little bump and imperfection in parking lot. Cold penetrating thinsulate of gloves (old frostbite starting to flareup), winter boots and wool socks and back of legs contacting the seat. WHY AM I STILL LIVING HERE?
It must be winter here. On Monday evening, I was frozen out of the van. Somehow the drivers side door card got broken in the process of getting in, and blocked the door from being able to be latched. The vapor barrier started coming out in pieces as I tried to slam it shut. Took forever to get it latched again. Temps have only gotten colder, and there's no room in the garage to work on it. Guess I'll be getting in on the passenger side for a while.
