I second Babylon 5 if you haven't seen it. It's oh-so 90's, but really great with storytelling that's ahead of its time. Very serialized, a lot like DS9, and even shares some of the same ideas/character names (and even actors!) which makes it familiar in a way. There are 5 seasons, and the first 4 are some of the best Sci-Fi ever. The 5th was kind of an afterthought, but still decent. The CGI gets better as the series goes on. Highly recommended. 

Resident Alien is another show we recently watched. It's got Alan Tudyk in it, and he's absolutely ridiculous and brilliant. Great show that will have you cracking up the entire time. 

Currently watching Cheers for the first time all the way through. Some stuff hasn't aged as well as it could, but it's a fun show. It's one of the best sitcoms of all time. And remember, Cheers is just a holodeck program. 


 

I'm a pretty huge Trekkie.  I have watched all of the original Roddenberry, all of TNG, all of Voyager (Jeri Ryan?  yes please), and all of the movies from both generations.  I do like Lower Decks, but it's not why I watch Trek.  The kind of Comedy I want to see on Trek is this:

Like... I laughed my effing ass off at this when I watched the movie.  Perfect Trekkie easter egg.

DW and I just finished watching the Netflix series Ripley.  It's an 8-part series based on the 1955 novel The Talented Mr Ripley by Patrica Highsmith.  That's the source material for the Matt Damon movie of the same name.

This version is presented in black-and-white, which suits both the timeframe and the material.  I have not read the book, but this was overall quite well made and very stylish.

We watched it since it stars Andrew Scott, one of our favorite 'bad guy' actors. He also played Moriarty in Sherlock.

The second main character is played by Jerome Flynn's son Johnny.  Dakota Fanning's talents are a bit wasted, though her character makes a subtle transformation (or maybe not...?) by the end of the series.  In the third act there is an Italian detective inspector played by Maurizio Lombardi who is just fantastic. There is a cameo by John Malkovich.

8/10 - recommended.

There was a distinct lack of Firefly on that list. You might also dig the original Leverage.
I would second the suggestion of Resident Alien generally being great.

Ted Lasso is superb. Apple probably offers a free month, which should be enough time to binge it (3 seasons, sounds like a 4th is coming). It is a workplace comedy, not a sports show. 

If Star Wars is acceptable, I would definitely consider Disney+ for a month or two to run through Andor. Season 2 (and probably the last) is coming out sometime in 2025. The show is really good, and really good at being more sci-fi thriller instead of just STAR WARS LIGHTSABER NOISES.

Been watching "The Penguin" on HBO/Max. It's a spinoff of "The Batman", the Robert Pattinson film from a couple of years ago, and stars an absolutely unrecognizable Colin Farrel. At first I wasn't sure, it was feeling like a generic mafia story, but I must admit that episode 3 got me hooked pretty well. I'm in for the rest of the season now. It's quite dark and not very comic book-y at all.

Also watching season 2 of "Tulsa King" on Paramount. The primary attraction here is Sly Stallone. It's a Taylor Sheridan show, which means some clunky writing and unrealistic storylines, including some that never get followed up on. But also interesting locations and memorable characters. It's OK.

'The Chosen'. Doesn't matter if you dislike religion and Christianity. It's about characters from the Bible, but it's not the Bible. Great writing, cast, and acting. Very positively reviewed and highly rated.

Seems like everything I like on Netflix gets canceled.  The Brothers Sun was great, looking forward to a season two and it gets the axe.  Just started watching KAOS which is really good and they announce it's canceled today.  

I got caught up for the last couple weeks with The Gentlemen series.  If they don't do season 2, I'm going to beat someone with a wet noodle. Talk about dark humor.

If you like mystery/crime shows, you have to watch Bones. It has a ton of seasons and is one of my all time favorite shows. I think its on Netflix and Hulu.

LOL, fair enough. Main draw, maybe? He's still a pretty big star to some of us older folks.

I have actually watched all three of those.  Firefly/Serenity I have on DVD and I watch it at least once a year.

Resident Alien is a hoot.  It's a tad fluffy, but it's not intended to be serious or believable, so I love it.

Leverage is super fun, also a tad fluffy for my taste, but I'll watch it just for Beth Riesgraf.
