two to the head and you know their dead, 500 .22 LRs take the same amount of space as 25 12ga. shells. Long live the 10/22!

The WWZ audiobook is aw-summ. All-star cast, and it's a lot like listening to an NPR special on the Zombie War. Really well presented. I enjoyed it better than the book. How can you not like something written by the son of Mel Brooks?

Now where's my WWZ MMO!?!?!?

And in addition to "Shaun of the Dead," why not check out everything from the team of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg. There's also "Hot Fuzz" and the recently released on DVD in the States "Spaced" which was their first project together, and a show that rivals the British "Office" for finest sitcom in recent memory. It's worth the price.

My weapons of choice are the Glock 19 and AK47 for rugged reliablility, inexpensive ammunition and almost bulletproof operation.

You can't watch these movies and not think about your escape plan, I have mine all sorted out, we live in a small town with a grainery, high ground is more easily defended.

It's light, holds a ton of ammo, is more accurate than I am, and you'd be surprised how many household uses you can find for a bayonet. Also, remember that you're fighting zombies, not grizzly bears wearing body armor. Since only head shots are useful, you don't need some large-caliber cannon. A .22 auto target pistol is just way more useful than an S&W .500 revolver.

Only issue with the AR-15 is that you really want it chambered to fire common sporting rounds. You'll have a hard time scrounging ammo if you're limited to 5.56 NATO. Same thing with your AK. When the Zombie's attack, UPS won't be able to make deliveries of your 7.62, no matter how inexpensive it is. Cheap ammunition doesn't matter. Plentiful ammunition matters. Gotta use a round that you can find at Big 5 and Walmart.

5.56 nato is practicly interchangable with .223, and is a common "verrmint" round.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5.56x45mm_NATO#5.56_mm_NATO_versus_.223_Remington

Simmilar case with .308 Vs. 7.62 nato, "close enough"

But there is always the M1, every store that carries ammo will have LOTS of 30.06

I'm going to disagree with you on this point. 1: .223 is pretty much the most common ammo out there at the moment, and if you were really prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse, you'd have it stacked deep and dry. This was one big point I disagreed with the ZSG on...they reccomend the M1 Carbine, which while maybe 30 years ago that would have had plentiful and cheap ammo, that's definitely NOT the case now.

But .223 and X39 both are sold in Wal-Mart in fairly large quantities. I have yet to be in a wal-mart that sold ammo and didn't have as many more more rounds of .223 (5.56 chambers can shoot .223 no sweat) and 7.62X39 as they did anything else.

2: 223 is going to make longer range zombie headshots distinct possibility, but you're going to be able to carry more of it, since "stopping power" isn't really an issue here, like it would be in a Red Dawn kind of situation.

3: Finally, I think in a Zombie Apocalypse situation, we can probably all agree that Zombies aren't your only concern. You're definitely going to have some roving gangs of badguys who are going to want to take your E36 M3. That's why a .22LR isn't going to work, either.

(Over on MM we have a pretty extensive Zombie Preparedness thread. ;) )

but on the "roving baddies" I will gladdly use my 12 GA. and other assorted "larger wepons"

but if .223 is your round of choise, i would take a mini 14 over an AR, unless we get into multiple caliber uppers or the AR, but that is a different story.

Why's that? Is it because you just like things that are difficult to clean? ;)

Agreed, but most civilian AR-type rifles are chambered in .223 Winchester, not 5.56 NATO. They're awfully close, but .223 is easy to find anywhere. And besides, I have over 1,500 rounds of it in the gun safe, so I don't know how much scrounging will really be necessary.

Ah, then my concern about it isn't valid.

I still think being able to scrounge can prove invaluable. You never know if your original stronghold will be overrun or if you'll find yourself having to relocate to meet up with a compound of other survivors. If this is the case, you might need to replenish your ammunition supplies while on the move. .223 would be a good round to do that with.

A 12 gauge can still be useful, even when dealing with zombies. It's not more efficient at killing zombies, but you can use it as a crowd control tool. Blast a couple zombies at knee level and you can use them to slow down a pack.

Or use it to breach doors while running away from a pack. It's always handy to have a multi-purpose tool. You wouldn't need too much extra ammo if you're not using it as a primary offensive weapon.

and as the "Guide" says, a pistol is only really good as a last ditch weapon, IE, Zs have grabbed you and you put it right up to their head, and maybe your own...

You outta read the books. Scatterguns have the same effect as sneezes on stopping zombies.

If they're that close, you're probably better off with a melee weapon. A machete or crowbar will get more zombies off you faster, and is easier to use when you're panicked.

Another reason to go with a shotgun slung across your back as a tool.

Is it preferable to have a really sharp weapon, or a heavy weapon with a lot of heft? Cutting a limb off a zombie will make your life a little easier, but won't really stop it. If you want to destroy the brain, it seems easier to bash in the skull than try to cleave through that much bone. Plus, a bladed weapon has the potential to get wedge in the bone. Although, I imagine decapitation is effective.

A big crowbar also has the multi-purpose tool benefit going for it. You can't use a katana to pry open a door.

The topic of Zombi’s came up today on the Adam Carolla show and even the Zombi Survival Guide was referenced…I’d say there’s a good chance he’s trolling this forum.

I picked somebody up at Burbank Airport last Saturday about an hour before Adam Carolla & Jay Leno reportedly passed through in a LBC of some sort…seeing them would have made the trip a little more memorable.

Yeah I would go with rifles in the .223 and .308 caliber, a 12 ga shotgot, as for hand guns 9mm, .45 or maybe some of the revolvers with interchangeable cylinders to change calibers.

However yeah you need some sort of close quarters alternatives as well, crowbar, machette, hatchet, baseball bat....

I also have an old beet knife that could do some interesting damage. It looks something like this. however about 6 inches longer.

This thread has got my thinking any good recent kill the zombie games out for PC? Or should I just stick with resident evil on the Wii.

I haven't fired it up yet, but I understand that there's some good Zombie Killin' Action in Fallout 3.

STALKER: Clear Sky is going to also have zombies and mutants to contend with.

For Zombie Killin Fun with the friends and family, there's the board game Zombies!!! It has my favorite card in a board game ever: "Hey look... a shotgun!"

Back on the subject of melee weapons: there's always the classic chain-saw. But they're big and cumbersome, and require a fuel source. An entrenching tool could be useful. Axes and hatchets are nice, but they have a pretty focused striking edge and tend to get stuck.

Blades never need reloading. I used a 4ish foot long crowbar doing some demo work in New Orleans last spring break and I imagine that could do some serious damage to a soft target

They aren't really zombies, but rather people who have survived the Apocalypse because the radiation changed their genetic structure. You'll meet one in like the first 45 minutes.

I've never played it, but it isnt' Dead Rising pretty much the Ultimate Zombie game?
