I was on a job site about 22 years ago when a lift went wrong.   Big crawler crane was moving a smallish track-hoe into a foundation hole.  As soon as the operator started to lower it the control brake failed and the hoe fell 40'.  Fortunately the job foreman was a stickler for site safety and nobody was hurt.  Just freaked out and lots of "holy E36 M3s".

Big boy toys are a lot of fun, right up until they aren’t, you need to be constantly aware.  This one is my personal best and likely all time champion from June of this year.  600 ton with a luffing rig allowed us to get the main hydraulic boom up to the 9th floor roof level and then reach in almost 300 feet.   This is from the end of the boom, that block on the ground is almost 4 feet tall.   If I’m remembering correctly the counterweights loaded on the crane totaled over 400,000 pounds.
