I'm going to try Win7 RC1 on my new gaming desktop...I've seen the earlier betas running, they look pretty decent.

I'm still sticking with Linux for all my non-gaming need though, even though THE DRIVERS FOR THIS SERVER'S berkeleying BROADCOM NIC JUST WON'T WORK AAARGH!!!! >:(

Thats about how often my vista home premium shuts down on my POS gateway. I hate that piece of crap. And I've installed every service pack and all that crap, I've tried everything. It will randomly shut off, when I turn it on, it gives you the option to check your drives or continue (not recommended). Well if I check my drives, it freezes checking my drives and I have to drop the battery to get it to reboot, and it tells me it encountered a serious error and I should back up all my data. Its done this for 2 years now.

The first service pack I installed for Vista reduced the audio volume by about 20%. I haven't installed one since.

And the stupid thing still won't play GTR or RACE07, even with all the graphics turned down. Frame rate? Fine. Processor speed? Great. RAM space? Plenty. Lag time for all controls? Present.

My vista 64 bit has problems with Firefox and refuses to run Half Life 2 although episodes 1 and 2 run fine?!? Also it likes to do strange things to certain apps i download. It does not crash but it idles at 1.4 gigs of RAM . That's a mite excessive considering i own computers with less ram. Luckily that computer has 8 gigs.

I MacGyvered my own OS using Windows 3.1, an old copy of Photo Elements and some free code I got in a box of cereal.

I just gotta wait for the mobo to get back from the factory...you know how this bleeding edge stuff is. Of course right after I order the parts for a PC a better mobo comes out

Most new-ish hardware is well supported by Linux. As mentioned, you can always try an Ubuntu live CD (or live USB stick) - the computer boots off the CD/USB - it's slow, but it will let you play around without committing to a full-blown installation.

I initially used a live USB stick with my Dell Mini9, as I knew I would need to make some configuration changes to make it all work. That was in early January. Now that we're in May, the Mini9 is mostly fully supported.

Why? Is it because it's tough to take the fact that there is indeed a superior machine out there and we've discovered it? Or is it that you seem determined to stick to that consistantly underperforming, unreliable system that seems to be able to suck lemmings into the "oh, the last 5 versions of the product didn't work, maybe this one will" mindset? If Ford sold me 5 trucks where the engines had to be rebuilt/replaced every few months, the front diff had a different axle ratio than the rear and the seats were installed backward and was not compatable with the gasoline it's supposed to run on I'd never buy a Ford again. That's why I have a mac. I have had windows machined that tend to be useless before 2 years is up. In that two year span they need updating, downdating, upgrading and repairs. My mac just needs electricity.

My head was shaved because I'm balding, I can't afford Starbucks (I live in Michigan, only 3 of us are working) and I wouldn't mind having my Jetta black but I tell you this, MY PANTIES ARE NOT IN A WAD (I duct-tape them to my thighs). None taken dude.

odd.. my pentium 3 machine has been running 24/7 since 2001.. with only a day off when the powersupply finally went last year. This is with an upgrade from 98 to Xp about 4 years ago.. so the same basic build all this time,

My Pentium 4 machine has been doing the same for 2 years now.. not even a hiccup

the real question is, which will make surfing porn better?

For better porn surfing, you want Safari or the latest Firefox beta, with "private browsing" mode.

Or so I hear.
