I don't know the details behind the merger, but here is my advice to Honda/Nissan going forward.

  1. Put the GT-R drivetrain into the Z.
  2. Put the GT-R drivetrain into an Altima SE-R.
  3. Put the GT-R drivetrain into a Sentra SE-R.
  4. Put the GT-R drivetrain into a Civic Type R.
  5. Put the GT-R drivetrain into the Passport.
  6. Put the GT-R drivetrain into the Fit Sport.
  7. Badge the Pathfinder as a Honda, it is beautiful, but hindered by the fact that it is a Nissan.
  8. Bring over the Patrol Safari.
  9. Kill all other Nissans.

Seems reasonable to me.

I really don't see how this will work out.  Nissan should at least get a better CVT out of it.

Whats the issue with the current one?  Reliability?

My recent rental was a Rogue - CVT and 3cyl turbo.  I was impressed with the powertrain.  36mpg average in an SUV and the programming was pretty good - it would really move if you wanted it to.  The faux gears are dumb though.

I'd trade the powertrain in my DD for that in a heartbeat.

Kill nissan appliances, keep doing nissan trucks.  Let honda do cars.  Make infiniti the RWD brand.

Honestly, I'm not sure how this move will work either.

Kill the Nissan brand. Relaunch the Datsun brand as a value alternative to slot below Honda. Greenlight the IDx. Give it a K20...

Alternative: launch a new Sylvia to compete with the GR86/BRZ. Hardtop economy interior version is a Nissan. High end drop-top version is a Honda S2000. Maybe the Sylvia is non-turbo K20 while the S2000 gets the CTR engine. Doesn't cannibalize the Z which should remain a bigger, more powerful car similar to the Supra.

The IDx needs to look more "510 like" and less "'72 Celica like ".

In 1985 Nissan jammed a Z type rear end under a 200SX and gave us a RWD, 5-speed car.  Tweak the Altima body to look more 510, throw the Z axle on it......

Worked for Chrysler for 20+ years.

I was thinking the same, but make the Nissan much cheaper. Like plastic fenders, no leather, etc. such that they'll call it a Datsun Roadster.

That way unlike the Frisbee, Fiata, and Zupra they won't compete with each other and the price might undercut the GR86 and MX-5.

I dont think they need to undercut the GR86 on price.  Just make it reliable.

If you made the same exact car with a K series, it would sell pretty well.

In reply to TravisTheHuman :

I probably would have bought a GR86 if it came with a 2AR instead of my ND Miata. I wouldn't hesitate with a K-powered Nissonda either.

This feels appropriate to share here, the Nissan "Altima" with the most threatening aura:

On a more serious note, I'd love to see at least one halfway-decent performance car come out of this collab.
