These new cone of shames have a very Jetson vibe. Glad this turned out ok.

She came home with a plastic one. It was pretty horrible. My wife found this one online. It blows up so you can make it as stiff or as soft as needed. It's almost perfect.
My siblings and I support a sister who has made some less than stellar life choices. To her credit she has never asked for much but she has needed several bailouts. After the last one we moved her from a shared accommodation to her own apartment which we subsidize. She asked for help with a dental bill a couple months ago which I paid and now she needs a new phone which I am paying for. In the back of my head I was thinking she really should be managing this stuff now. But I learned today that she is putting money away for a $2800.00 surgery for her cat. So I guess I am paying $600.00 toward that and not the phone and dentist. I am kind of put out actually.
She is getting better by leaps and bounds. Her abdominal drain has almost stopped weeping and will be coming out tomorrow.
Today when I got home, she was obviously happy to see me. The fentanyl patch must be getting weaker. She is more alert today than she has been since she got home.
Today the tail started wagging again for the first time since last Sunday. That makes me a happy man.
The drain is gone and she is off all the drugs. Still moving a little slow but she is almost back to her usual self.
I even got some hugs today.
2 weeks and 3 days in. The staples got removed this morning and the vet says she is recovering nicely.
She is still moving a little slowly and probably will for the next couple of weeks.
She stopped by my work on the way home from the vet, unfortunately I wasn't there.
So happy to see that she is recovering! Good man for doing the right thing.
Your cousin should (obviously!!!!) pick up that vet bill.
Back in March of 07' my ex an I got an AKC whippet, she was $800 and 4 weeks old. When Eve ( the whippet ) was 9 MO the ex thought horseplay with a fragile dog was a good idea, and Eve ended up with a compound fracture of her right foreleg. Estimated cost for repairs; a titanium plate and pin; was $4500. I don't regret a bit of it. She's 14YO now, arthritic and a bit slower, but she's a great dog.
It's all about coming away from any tragic situation like yours with the least amount of regret that you can live with.
Last update.
One month later and Maddie is back to 100%. She is just as rambunctious and playful as she was before. The only sign of anything is a patch of short hair where the pain patch was that is slowly filling in and a 6" long scar on her belly that she will carry for life. She's back to being a happy girl.
