Few guys at work got on this topic today: in total... any vehicle owned or not, work trucks, motorcycles etc included, how many miles have you driven (passenger miles don't count).

Include your age to put miles in perspective...

I'm 31, In chrono. order:

'87 suzuki samurai - 3k '97 saturn SL2 - 43k '04 impreza RS - 70k '96 cobra - 41k '89 accord LXi - 63k '05 civic SI - 20k work/rental trucks/misc ~ 30k

Total ~ 270,000 miles...
(Assuming a constant 55mph speed, it would be slightly over 6 months)

The idea of calculating the mileage I drove in the 14 cars I owned is making my head hurt. All but 1 were bought used and some didin't have working odometers. I'm not even including the 3 cars my wife has owned (I drive when together) since we met. Wish I could contribute a real number...

How can I tell when most of my cars have odometers that dont work? Seriously over half of my cars have had broken odometers. I dont know why but they do.

70 Pinto odo stopped after I had driven it about 50k.

66 Chevy Pickup odo broke and then was repaired, I think about 40k.

86 Fiero odo worked and I pu 93k on it,

96Ranger odo quit at 236k

90 CRX Ive put 7507.1 on it

Too many in betweene to remember

Total trackable miles 426,507.1

I figgure at least 400k in there else where. So in the range of 1,000,000 miles at 44 years of age and 30 years of driving.

I am 11,000 miles short of that in the last 10 years on one car..a 91 Ford Escort! 50 years old and drive a lot.

Did 212,000 miles on my old 74 Mustang. 197,000 in am 86 Escort Exp, 210,000 in a 95 Mustang.

Those are the big ones, possibly another 100,000 on many other minor cars and trucks. Should hit an honest million in 2-3 years.

My buddy has been doing hotshot runs for 28 years...he is nearer 5 million.

I'm 49, and there is no way I can easily recall all my vehicles. I'm guessing it would be in the 50 - 75 range.

1984 Tempo: 33k miles in 3 years. 1989 9C1 Caprice: 98k miles in 4 years 1993 GMC Sierra 82k in 4 years 2000 Sonoma 66k in 2 years. 2002 Elantra 66k in 8 years. 2000 Grand Vitara 30k in 4 years. 2006 GMC Sierra 28k in 4 years 2000 Accent 5k in 3 years. 1994 Swift GT 1800 miles in 18 months 1988 C4 'vette 2100 miles in 5 months.

** = cars owned/driven after marriage and are actually a percentage of the miles on the car. Elantra 50% of the 131k miles, GV 30% of the 90k, Accent about 5% of the 85k, Sierra about 50% of the 57k.

Total miles: Over 412k. This does NOT include the many many MANY miles I logged behind the parents vehicles from 15-20. I could safely add another 80k onto that total.

'98 Jetta GLS- 15k
'87 Econoline 150- 20,000 and climbing(including 3 1,000 mile trips in the last few years)
'09 RX8 R3- 7,000 and climbing.
Work truck while working for my dad during summers, probobly 10-15k
small bits of driving parent owned cars- probobly less than 5k

total: about 57k miles?

I'm 22, drove alot in high school. grad school so far and college I walked to class, worked at school, driving was only to the mall or long distances away. I also used to ride my bike a lot in high school, drivers in WI aren't quite as inattentive/incompetent as people here in Boston (though recent studies indicate they are usually a lot drunker!). I'm not brave enough here!

12,700 on the E30 5,000 on the Spitfire ~2,000 on various trucks around the house ~1,000 in the Geo Tracker ~1,000 on my bike (does that count?) ~500? on various other cars.

So about 22,000 total.

Get a driving job and the miles add up fast... rough guess working for the newspaper for 10 yrs@40k/yr=400k. Typically I drove 25k in the other times, I lived in BFE to get anywhere, which is about another 20 yrs.... That is another 500k. So nearly 1 million in 20 yrs of driving.

Driving has been a part of my job description for 9 of the last 10 years. Only 2 of those jobs did I have to log miles driven. I once put 13k miles on a vehicle I only owned for 4 months. My current car I have owned for 3 1/2 years and am closing quickly in on 40k miles on it. Rough WAG I'm probably somewhere between half and three quarter million miles. I'm 34 and have had a license to drive for 18 years and 5 months to the day.

I've been averaging about 36,000 per-year for several years now, although it's increased again lately - I've done 15,000 since Thanksgiving, and that's just in my own car. I had broke 100,000mi by the time I was 21, hit the half-million mark by 30, and a million about 1.5-years ago.

Of the vehicles we own now, I've personally driven 15k(Accent), 70k(Fit), 50k(Miata), 60k(Villager) and 50k(C1500).

Wow...no way for me to really try to calculate, I got dizzy just trying to remember each car and how much I drove it. I turn 39 in April, had my license for 21 years. I've owned something like 50 cars, so I don't remember how much I drove each (some I hardly drove at all). The cars with the biggest chunks of miles....

1988 Chevy Nova - 40k ish

2001 Jeep Cherokee - 86k

2004 Jeep Liberty - 42k

1999 Mazda Protege - 76k

But those are just the tip of the iceburg. As a total wild guess, I'd say somewhere around 500k total, give or take 100k
