It's going to rain tonight. Probably while you're asleep. You'll live.
hey, nice to have concern over my inlaws- they got "hit" by Earl a few days ago.
Heartless bastards, you all are.....
I work for the phone company in the network power department. My turf is Cape Cod,and the Islands. We have been working like crazy in anticipation of what I think will be little more than regular rain storm.
sayin up here in the northeast it hit the colderr water and has been downgraded to a tropical storm...
Those of us in SoFla know what a real storm can do. Jokes are not appreciated. You go without power for three weeks and then get back to me.
I'm on Cape Cod now. I live in PA, but took today off and came up last night to help my 80 year old Dad who lives on the water, as forecasts looked like it could be enough of a problem that we needed to prepare. We've seen plenty of these, but this had potential to be more than just a windy day. We took the boat out this morning, but really, right now, as I sit here looking out at the water, it is windy, it is raining, and the tide is really really high, but nothing is going to be damaged, and we're going to put the boat back in tomorrow. Really, it's a Boston Whaler, it would have been fine if we had tied it up differently.
I bought a 5000w generator in PA yesterday to bring up here where they are sold out. Still in the trunk of the car, but I talked them into such a good deal that I'll keep it anyway.
Generators should be owned and kept in good condition by everyone. You are a good son, carry on. Leave the generator there , they will need it.
We had our 800kw genset all ready to go anywhere on the Cape today. Now that is a generator!!! Dual voltage, quick connects for power cables, electric powered ,and diesel fired block heaters, and 360 degree lighting make it a rolling power plant capable of powering large buildings. I love that thing. Now if only my boss would schedule the CDL driver course that he promised me so I can drive it instead of having my co-worker have all the fun.
One of these days I should take pics of the generator, and post them here. You gusy would be impressed.
Chris
So do those of us in OK.
You guys get days to prepare, we get minutes, if were lucky.

I took the opportunity to fire off my 10Kw home built diesel generator Thursday even though Earl was going to miss up by 400 miles. Hooked up a couple of space heaters for load. It ran about ten minutes and started misfiring. Pulled the fuel separator and sure enough water. Then I spent the next three hours pulling down the entire injection system. Got it cleaned, bled and re-fired. Looks like no permanent damage. Nothing I hate worse than working on a diesel injection system. That crap stinks.
Just to show off what a couple of weeks without power encouraged me to build.

Gee thanks for that J.
BTW you have no room to talk about the leaderboard Mr. #2. I'm way back here in 89th. Though I believe this one puts me into Super Dork territory or at least close to it.
Toyman shoots and wins! That last post made you a SuperDork.
Dood, I was a Super 'Tard, the really olde tyme board members will remember what that means.

Was it worth the trip??? I mean, at least you got to see your Dad, but the whole thing was a real anticlimax IMHO. We didn't get anywhere near the 4-6" of rain that they predicted in RI.
I fell asleep in front of the TV, woke up around 3AM to when it was supposed to be the apocalypse and there was... nothing.
And now you know why no one believes the news when they say the world is coming to an end. Watching hurricane coverage down here is disgusting. It's all about ratings.
In reply to gamby: We were planning on coming up thus weekend anyway to pull the boat for the season so it was just one extra day off, so no biggie. Dad was appreciative, and it is a nice day today on the beach
You'll need to log in to post.
