I know you folks up north don't think 6 " of snow is alot but it is here in metro Atlanta. I can't even get out of my driveway. My house is 1/4 mile from the paved road and has two steep hills. I can't get up even the first.
If I weren't computer challenged I would post some photos.
Im with ya on the hills bit...I almost didnt make it up a couple of the steeper ones near here...and both times there were cars behind me...that is scary!

im with you. Marietta is still a sheet of ice. They may treat the roads, but not in subdivisions. There is a massive hill the curves to the right that has claimed a number of cars already. I have work to do as well as a court date tomorrow.
Yeah, work has been closed for two days. My SO and I walked 2 miles to the grocery store just to go on an adventure. There were NO cars on the road. It was funny.
Got two feet of snow a few weeks ago. Got bored, dug a car out, went for a drive. Got more bored, dug other cars out. 6" of snow is a slow day lol.
You know it is funny I use to live in Portland where an inch of snow would cripple the entire city. I now live on the eastern side of the same state and feet of snow and blizzard conditions don't slow things down really at all unless you are leaving town and ODOT has closed the main roads.
Most of the towns and counties in the South are not able to commit the resources to proper road clearing. I got out both days in my 4runner but the schools and county offices will be closed Wed for the third day in a row. And it wont improve for several more days.
The worst thing is what all of this does to our schedule because those cases that were set for Mon and Tues will have to be rescheduled for another day and with official holidays and my week in Fla for the 24Hr, time is limited.
Man, we get a half-inch of ice and it's party time here in Central MS. I've been in Atlanta for snow, and those hills worry me.
We got cold rain and maybe an ice sickle hanging from a tree out in the woods somewhere. So they closed schools all day Monday and half of Tuesday. The way people were driving you would have thought there was ten feet of snow on the roads rather than ten drops of water. I hate this town sometimes.
On the evening news, here in Michigan, they reported that Atlanta had borrowed some plows to get their fleet up to 11 . Better hope for a warming trend !

But there aren't any hills in Ohio, it looks like Saskatchewan with a few more trees and barns !
I cleared a run-ramp up my huge hill in our subdivision. Neighbors thought I was nuts cause it took me 3 hours with a spade shovel to clear the ice and snow properly. My next door neighbor with his FX4 F150 couldn't make it halfway up the hill. With my runway I took my wife's Camry, got it half way up, backed it down, then drove it right up and out. My neighbors were all watching and the neighbor at the top of the hill went from a frown when I started up the first time to a smile when I got to the top. People were all walking around to the store and the gas station, I drove to both, then I went home, and stayed there because the other fun thing I know is no one, no way, no how can drive on ice, not worth it. Growing up in Maine and northern CT you gain an appreciation for how to prepare for situations like this, but also how to take care of yourself if need be.
People are whining on the TV that no one is doing anything for them, lazy people, it makes me mad that our society is coming to this.
I'm not waiting for anyone to do anything for me (short of my wife bringing me another scotch). Full pantry. Enough milk for the rest of the week. If we get really hungry I have enough ammo to start a small war and will harvest game from the back 40. Yummy squirrel dumpling goodness.
Work is shut down for the third day in a row on Wednesday. Lucky me, I work in a department that issue laptops setup to access the company network. I get to "work" on snow days. School was supposed to start Monday evening but it will still be closed on Wednesday. The cool thing is that the expected ice event did not take down the power lines.
Yeah, feeling very luck there is still power here. Though I'm rethinking the whole "try to get to Atlanta before the big storm", since our class has been shut down.
There were no restaurants open this afternoon, so we made a trek down to the only thing open - Kroger. It was a madhouse, but I was able to get a few staples for the hotel room: Pre-cooked taco meat, shells, cheese, a frozen pizza and a 6-pack of Mt. Dew.
Glad our rooms have a fridge, microwave & decent TV. 
In 2008, I did a TSD rally, over the course of which, 2.5 feet of snow fell. Luckily we were in a Jeep. Unluckily, the tires weren't quite up to snuff. Lots of close calls!

Good to know someone is holding down the Fort, When I left it was a bastion of insanity. I hate snow,on a personal level.
So many people have been logging in from home this week that I've had trouble getting into the VPN. The folks with trucks were slowly getting around my subdivision today, and the slush tracks they made are all ice now. I cleared my driveway and dug out a pair of tire tracks to the end of my street, but I've got summer tires on all my cars, so all bets are off once I drive beyond that.
