Ever notice how few of the pennies in circulation today were minted before 1982? That's the year they went from copper to copper-coated zinc. Care to guess what a solid copper penny is worth? Nutballs pull them out of circulation and hoard them. Apparently it will soon become worthwhile to do the same with the zinc ones. Pennies don't actually circulate. They get used once and then sit forever in somebody's penny jar. It's time we got rid of it, and the dollar bill along with it. If they quit making dollar bills and only have dollar coins available, people will use them whether they like it or not.

There really isn't much that's cheaper than zinc. Maybe they could use plastic?

Yeah like plastic with a little magnetic strip... hmmmm and my name on it...
I don't mind them either, but why should the US Govt be spending 2 cents to make a 1 cent coin? It's just one more way they're pissing away taxpayer dollars. We should demand an end to it, not defend it.

[vows to start spending more cash]

Bills are sooooo much more useful then coins. You can't shove coins in your wallet and they get annoying rolling around in your pocket and they fall out etc.

Try using that bill to turn a screw. Or to make a front sight.

Anyone who understands the law of averages will accept it.
Well, I for one welcome our penny overlords. You turds hate them and literally toss them into wastebaskets, on the ground, leave them at the counter where you recieved them... I pick them up. Roll it all once the jar is full every few months, it goes directly to my kids' college funds. Few thousand in each over the last 7 years or so.
I'll take my free money, please.

Or try and get candy out of a vending machine. Ever go berserk because you've been trying to stuff a tattered bill in one? I haven't had that happen with a coin.
I save all my pennies; actually I save all my change. I put it all into a big jar....last time I spent it, I bought an xbox, wheel and forza. The time before that, I bought the band saw that I used to cut all the tube for the chassis in my datsun replica. (That's why I called my build site "Penny Ante Racing"....of course, I update my thread here more often than the website.)
Why don't you penny savers put all your dollar bills in a jar when you get home each day. You'd get ten times as much E36 M3 when you emptied the jar?

You presume businesses would operate that way, but unfortunately the prices would change by a cent to 2 so that they got to take advantage of the averaging laws. Guess who will come out on the short end of the stick?

Did the accountant just say a dollar is only 10x a penny?

When I was in primary school, the local high school was right across the road. Kids would drop pennies from the change from their lunches in all the "hangout" spots, so before school I'd always go and collect them so I could afford to get ice cream with my lunch sometime. To this day I never leave a coin on the ground.

I occasionally do. If my wallet is too full of ones, I'll toss a few in. I occasionally drop a 10 or 20 in, too.
I pick up pennies when I run. My little one loves the clink into her piggy bank. Other than that, I have no use for pennies. And by that measure, running is paying at most a penny per mile. And most of that happens on big money days, like yesterday when I find a dime.

I missed the sarcasm flags.
If they take away the pennies what will I clean model railroad and slot car tracks with? What will we throw at ugly strippers to let them know we are displeased with their C-section scars?
