i would really like an 05-06 LJ rubicon with the manual (6 speed)
f/r lockers, a little more space than the standard tj without looking stupid, 6 speed, and the last years for the 4.0HO I6
or, build a diesel wrangler rubicon and people will lne up for miles to buy one.
this guy is selling a VERY nice diesel converted JK

+1. They maxed out with that one IMO. I do like the 4 door JK a lot though. A JK Unlimited Rubicon would not suck.

$57,500 is a crapload of money for that. Nice rig, but I wouldn't pay that for it. Expedition Portal is usually less rock-crawling/mudding and more long distance overland travel. That's what's got me a little confused on this build, like it's trying to be both. For overlanding, you don't need 37" tires, you'd go with something a little smaller. And putting 37" tires on that stock rear D44 is something I'd expect from someone cutting corners and trying to save money, not on a $57k Jeep. For highway and light offroading (overlanding) it would be fine, but I wouldn't take it rockcrawling and wait for it to break. Those are some big shoes; put a stronger rear end on that. And those fancy wheels look nice, but you have to have beadlocks. If you could bring yourself to drill a hole in each of them, you could still use them with some Staun internal beadlocks; otherwise, you need new wheels.

i said it was nice, not that it was a good deal. i'm more interested in the diesel than the suspension setup, to tell the truth. i think its the one they get in europe.
I'd like an LJ-X. Some of the Rubicon stuff is nice, but 4:1 is really made for the Rubicon Trail. Most buyers don't understand that.

Everything I've done has been crawling. We don't have sand or snow in the southeast, and I hate mud, so the shorter the gearing the better IMO.

yes, dust and dirt is a whole lot easier to get off the underside of the truck than mud, too. and when you're working underneath, it doesn't crust off and fall in your eyes.

Maybe the Rubcon is right for you then. I could see myself finding a nice Rubicon and swapping in a 2.72:1 transfer case. I'm sure that I wouldn't have any trouble selling off the Rubicon unit.
Threadjack alert!:
This may be available within the next few weeks:
Woody, how much do you have into it?

i came so close to buying a green one just like that, 182k miles, with only a bikini top, for 4k

Why would you do that? The 4:1 Rubi case isn't going to cause you problems off-road as opposed to the 2.72:1 case.

if you want the rubi just for the lockers, you could buy a 98-02 X and just put in E-lockers or air lockers and end up several thousand dollars ahead. if you're not doing serious crawling, you wouldn't even neccesarily need the beefier diffs

For some it does. There is such a thing as too low for certain situations. The ones I mentioned - mud, snow, and sand, all benefit from some wheel speed. In those cases, a 4:1 might not be best.

I agree. Not everyone does.
