In reply to zipty842: I don't know what that is, but it looks delicious
I'm not a hot sandwich kinda guy, but that creation in zipty's pic looks downright awesome. I used to work in a sandwich shop and probably my favorite creation consisted of mozzerella, ham, salami, cappicola, pepperoni, peppered beef (a very lean pastrami) and proscuitini topped off with onion, lettuce, tomato, vinegar and oil, oregano, parmesean cheese and the juice from our pepper sauce drizzled on top.
My favorite is a chicken cutlet on garlic bread with mozzarella cheese and BBQ sauce, followed closely by either an open turkey or pot roast with gravy.
Peanut butter & bacon.
Very, very thin burger with onion and french fries cut very thin like potato sticks from a can. Press down hard on the bun!
My all time favorite breakfast meal with the Sunday comics and a pot of coffee:
Fresh slices of tomato Slices of Mozorella Thin slices of red onion
On toast with lots of mayonnaise and black pepper! Oy!!!!
K.I.S.S. -
BLT's
Awful Waffle bacon egg and Cheese w/ mayo on white
5 guys regular with everything
Ruben with slaw instead of kraut
Shredded barbeque chicken with swiss on a pretzel bun
thats a great monday thru friday dinner plan right there!

That with creamy Italian dressing is what we call a "double throwdown"

Dude, that looks like a closeup of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Sandwiches rule. I'm partial to the following:
Virginia ham and smoked turkey (or leftover fresh, if you have it) with swiss or muenster, longitudinal pickle slabs (I invented that dammit) with a little mayo and spicy mustard, toasted or lightly grilled, preferably on sourdough.
Rare roast beef and provolone with a little horseradish and mayo, preferably on rye.
Sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, proscuitto, and a little olive oil on something crusty.
Peanut butter and bacon on toast, or grilled. Not loads of PB, but enough to secure the bacon in place.
Also a fan of the traditional gyro as mentioned above. Try making your next BLT on a warm pita - YUM. The flatbreads sold in big stacks at BJs are actually quite good.
Ruben, probably miss-spelled. Heavy on the kruat, grilled rye, an a mean stack of thick sliced corned beef, oh yeah....

from bottom to top, here's my favorite sandwich:

Yay pickle slabs! We had a houseful of people over Sat. nite for Tim's b-day, and as part of the food spread I roasted a ham and a pork loin and put them on big platters so they could make themselves cubans. Unfortunately, I delegated pickles to Tim, and he bought... dill chips! I was so disappointed I turned the samwhich thing into just meat piles with bread on the side. Also good, but different.

I LOVE this thread.
Also the reason I love the Which-wich chain of restaurants. You can really make anything your heart desires at that place!!

Your unintentional (or perhaps intentional) incomplete sentence is quotable and hillarious.
My favorite sandwich has to be either Portillo's Italian beef with loads of sweet pepers, or barbeque and pickles. . Mmm.. pickles. The ruben is also good, or the philly cheesesteak. However this implies I have no love for the cold sandwiches, which isn't true. Jimmy John's Vito with Pep keep the guts is quite excellent as well as the traditional "dagwood" pile of meet on bread type sandwiches. I do also love a good Torta, which although not really a "sandwich" they are quite delicious. By definition hamburgers are a sandwich, so they must get an honorable mention. Buffalo, Turkey, Angus beef there all good when fashioned like a hamburger.. Italian style Sausage with peppers and onions must be included in any discussion involving best sandwich, however if including "linked meat" style eats the Chicago style hot dog is one of the best. Do Gyro's count as sandwhiches.. If they do they must be mentioned for their awesomeness.
Sorry, I got on a roll there..I need a Sandwich..
We had the Ham/avocado/chipotle again last night. It's unreal how well the ham goes with the avocado.

The open face is good too. Most days for breakfast, I eat an open faced sandwich of toasted triangle, or ciabatta bun, olive oil poured on the bread, topped with sliced tomatoes, fresh cut up garlic, salt, and lots, and lots of ground black pepper.
One question. Up here, there's a certain ethnic group that refers to it as a sangweedge. Does that exist in other places? Jersey maybe?
Now for another installment of 'Stuff that Luke ate today'.
My lunch consisted of a rather tasty combination of cream cheese, smoked trout, sun dried tomatoes and olives, on toasted Italian bread.
No fair you already got to eat lunch.. I have to wait another 1.5 hours before my co-workers start giving me funny looks for eating to early. Stupid time zones.

Granted I am a fan of hot beef or turkey sandwiches with mashed potatoes and gravy open face. But how do you keep the topings on the toasted triangle thingys above when you take a bite?

I totally forgot i posted that. It is another Portland, Or creation: Big-Ass Sandwiches
Ham, Roast Beef, or turkey, on a ciabatta topped with fries and a bechamel cheese sauce. one of the recent specials replaced the fries with deep fried mac and cheese.
My favorite hot sandwich is as follows: Cut some chicken breast into thin strips, put it in a bowl with some terriaki sauce, garlic and a little thai chili paste, allow it to marinade for about an hour. Add in a bunch of thin strips of onion. Toss it in a Forman grill or something of that nature. Get a hard hoagie roll and gut it. Toss in the oven for a few minutes with a bit of butter to toast it. Light coat of mayo on the bread cavity and flat, fill cavity with meaty goodness. Enjoy with cold beer.
Sitting here eating my Tri-Tip sandwich. Thos on the left coast should know what this is. I grew up outside Santa Barbara and it was a stable there, kinda like pulled pork BBQ here in the south. Unfortunately here in Alabama I can't get Tri-Tip. My mom in SoCal sends it to me along with the Santa Maria seasoning and I cook it myself, either on the grill (when weather cooperates) on in the rotessarie.

I'm currently in calorie reduction mode...........heading back to the Chicagoland area in March for a week of training. Portillos is definitely on the eating map for more than one lunch/dinner for the week. Also a little gyro shop that I remember off of Golf Road in Schaumburg.
MMMMmmmmm -- Portillos! And yes, hotdogs count!!!

I've been there (the gyro shop). Chicagoland and those little hotdog/gyro/grease stands is just awesome.
