20th anniversary coming up. To celebrate, this August we're doing a crewed charter of a 54 foot catamaran, boarding in St. Thomas, disembarking a week later in Tortola.
Really looking forward to this-- fingers crossed for no hurricanes.

We like to go to Hawaii, that way I can be swore at in a different accent while surfing how I am not local.
Toyman, that gives me an idea..
Anyone who lives on a beach (lake/ocean/whatever) and wants to vaca in DC for a long weekend or something, lets talk house swap.
edit: especially if you're a foodie at all, we live on 14th street. http://www.dccool.com/14th-street-scene
For my enviable situation every night is a Friday night and every morning is a Saturday morning. So I don't need a vacation for the same reason as when I was a working stiff. But my wife still works at a stressful job and she needs an occasional break. We did Paris in early May and we're doing Martha's Vineyard for a few days in mid-September. We always do a few days in Connecticut for the Lime Rock Vintage Event on Labor Day weekend (but that's for me not for her even though she accompanies me). I think we'll do a few days in Maine in August at the Cliff House in Ogunquit although we haven't made reservations yet. Been there often and love the place. Personally, I love Rhode Island from May through October, so I could just stay around home. We hate winter around here, so we enjoy getting away to warm a climate when it's cold here. South Florida, Palm Springs, CA, Phoenix, AZ area, etc.

More info on this, please
Leaving this Saturday for Atlanta, savannah, Hilton head, Boca Raton, Jax beach and New Orleans. All in one week.
Because my wife doesn't realize that vacations are supposed to be relaxing not frantically getting from one destination to the next

hah! sorry, no can swappy with my fiance.
Just got back from ten days in Downeast Maine. Did a week just outside of Acadia at a great little B&B - two rooms, totally off the grid, 75ft from the ocean and about half a mile from anything else - then three days in Portland on the way back to NY. Portland has gone totally and completely hipster; I've never seen such a concentration of perfectly-trimmed beards and skinny jeans in my life, and I've been to Williamsburg. Did the drive in my E39, which happily ate up the 1,000+ miles.

What do people in Indiana smell or something.

Where was Indiana mentioned? And I'm curious, because there is absolutely nothing in Washington IL except some corn and my step-cousin-in-laws. But his route is taking him past the best Fried Chicken I've ever found.

I really want to do this exact trip. Any pics to share?
We have a beach vacation planned at Sunset Beach, NC. I like it because it isn't very built up and we can actually relax. We get a house on the "canal" side of the island and the fishing in the marshes is great from my kayak. The in-laws usually come down to visit and wrangle the children, and this year my mother in law is seriously freaked the berkeley out regarding the shark attacks.
I've got a lot of time off banked, so I'm taking a few long weekends to wrench on cars, go fishing and generally not be in the office between now and then.

It wouldn't be much more to stop at Road America when you're traveling through Wisconsin.

My wife has a friend that lives there. She wants to stop and visit.

Ah. Well, have fun there! Wasn't trying to say anything bad about it; it is a nice area, just nothing really there. I lived about 15 minutes from there for a year.
If you like Fried Chicken, stop at Rip's Chicken about an hour north of there in Ladd, IL.
In reply to mtn:
I'm dragging her through the Ford Museum, I guess I can spend a couple of hours, in a town in IL, eating dinner with a friend of hers.

Oh, I've got pics. Some digital but mostly film, which I'm in the process of developing - you'll have to wait for those. I can, however, at least give you a tease.
That was the view from the back of the B&B property a little after sunrise.
