I don't know whether to be happy that the music of my youth inspired so many memes..or to be depressed that so few people remember the tunes.
"Turning Japanese", The Vapors (from the album "New Clear Days", 1980)

"I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused.." Elvis Costello, "The Angels Wanna Wear My Red Shoes", 1977 (can't find the marketing video, here he is at "Tops of The Pops--no artificial pitch correction):

"Sex And Drugs And Rock And Roll", Ian Dury and the Blockheads, 1977. Again, can't find an official video, so here's some guy's tribute on youtube with the original song in the background.

I'd love to see Drowning Pool with Dave again or A7x with the Rev back or Alice in Chains with Layne, maybe it's just me but I think it's berkeleying awesome and hilarious at the same time
Damnit. Those guys harmonized like only dudes who share DNA (no, not that way) should. Thanks for getting me on a AIC kick.

I've got all the Prozzak albums. Even the terrible last one. No Celine Dion, though. Eeek.
In the garage, I usually have Pandora radio running. Half the time, I have no clue what's actually playing. But as long as I enjoy it, I don't care.

Hilarious. If someone asked me what would happen if the USA got a hold of holograph technology that could be used on stage... the first thing I would expect would be a resurrected Tupac.

Ha!, that was the first thing to come to mind when I read the thread title.
Sucks to be getting old.

That was my intent when I chose the thread title, and I'm happy that it was understood by some of the other old farts around here.

I should have known I was getting older when I started looking for "unplugged" stuff.

You have a point. If I just wanted rock & roll with a "twangy" voice, I'd break out The Band again. I'd rather listen to my father's Roger Miller records than some of the crap that spews from Nashville today.
I mentioned The Band for a reason..discovered today that Levon Helm is really sick (how long has he been fighting that E36 M3?!?). I hate to say it, but I think we're going to lose him soon. His wife & daughter left a very sad message on his website.

That was my first thought as well. Does that mean I'm old?
No, it just means you know older music. Same thing I thought of. And every time I see the thread title "And now for something completely different", I get Liberty Bell in my head again.

It's bad enough they know about Celine Dion.
Don't even get me started on Bryan Adams...
You may not like Bryan Adams, but that was no excuse for Maroon 5. I mean, it forced us to come up with Nickelback! This is Mutual Assured Destruction all over again.

I'd say, per capita, the USA is probably a worse polluter of trashy music.
I started to take umbrage at Luke's comment, but on reflection we inflicted not only Maroon5 on the planet but also Vanilla Ice and rap in general. I now feel the need to apologize to the globe at large for all that. Sorry, guys.
E36 M3, Jem was using hologram technology almost 30 years ago.

Maroon5 is weird to me. On one hand, they're actually good musicians.
On the other, their ability to alternate between "Ok this is a pretty decent groove" and "Oh god what the berkeley is this horrible pop bullE36 M3" is maddening.
I DO like Adam Levine's voice, as well as his style of guitar playing.

Not a big David Allen Coe fan, a little to "Hooray for the klan!"ish for me. But I do love Waylon. and I do like Hank III. And Dwight Yoakam. If country had gone the way of Dwight I would like it more. But its seemed to follow Garth Brooks. Me and my gang and all that crap.

I truly could not agree more with this post.

I had no idea we were in a E36 M3ty music cold war. We may have a much bigger army, but you have your finger on the big red button with Nickleback and Celine Dion.

I think you'd be better off apologizing for every pop song that came out from 1980 - 1989.
There's no way that hip-hop as a whole can be considered worse than 80s pop. Except maybe Simple Minds and Talking Heads
LOL ^^
but I agree on rap, but not rap from the 80's-90's
