My family is still masking up while indoors and so far we haven't gotten it (that we know of). Outside of travel situations we also haven't been in any indoor crowds, and also haven't eaten inside.

I think avoiding covid for 3 years requires some luck and being ok with breaking a number of social norms. It's easier for some people than others.

Same here.  Being an introvert helps.  I've eaten at a restaurant once since this all hit, and that was outdoor seating, in the lull after vaccinations began and before the Delta wave really got going.   I switched over to N95 masks in December 2021.  Was going to go to an indoor concert in August, but canceled after the venue ditched their masking policy.

Hope everyone here who has gotten it recovers fully.  Long Covid is my main concern - got too much stuff I still want to do that requires my health to be good.

I'm doing it 'wrong' and avoided it for 2.5+ years. I won't share all of my thoughts because it's clear that this forum is censored, and differing views are not accepted. I don't want to share any 'covid misinformation' LOL, even though a lot of the 'misinformation' has turned out to be accurate info the CDC and WHO are fessing up to now.
I'm not vacced, and won't be. I have a severe allergy to a common component in vaccines, I can't remember the term my doc used, but basically part of the soup they prepare to deliver everything. The flu shot I got about 12 years ago very nearly changed my life forever. My doc said she's never seen a reaction as bad as me and told me to never get "any vaccines" ever. My reaction was reported to the CDC, it was that severe. That was way before covid, but I'm extending it to covid and anything else. That reaction scared me to death, and was the first time I ever thought I might not make it.
The flu shot.  The free flu shot they give to anyone with a free arm.

I also only mask up where required. Fortunately after moving to FL, those places were few and far between.
I wash my hands no more and no less than I did pre covid.

If I meet someone new, I would always ask them if they'd like me to wear as mask, as I pull my mask out and begin putting it on. If they say yes, no worries at all. I put it on and thank them for telling me.

Why? Well, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I don't trust the 'science' and media. We've been lied to from the beginning. I remember hearing the early reports "they are stacking bodies in central park like cord-wood". that scared the crap out of me. I thought the plague was back. After a few days I started to wonder where are the names of the thousands dropping dead in NYC daily. Then wondered where are the pics that would surely be all over the 'net by now. Started to think the whole 'stacking bodies' was a lie. Then I couldn't figure out why there weren't people just dying while driving down the highway, and why are the skies open to aircraft when pilots could just die in flight with as bad as things are. Why aren't I stepping over bodies as I walk down the sidewalk.
The hype was way overkill.

Then they decided to politicize it. "I ain't getting no Trump vaccine!!" Really Kamala? First off, it's not a Trump vaccine or a Biden vaccine. But if somehow it was Trumps baby, why won't you get it? It's going to save your life, and others right? That told me this virus isn't as bad as the media is touting. She's willing to risk the life of her and her family so as to avoid showing agreement with the then president of the us?

The changing science. Fauchi is touted as an expert, but he has an abysmal record in the public health sector (look into how he handled the aids epidemic in the 80's). Somehow though, he's the end-all of knowledge. One mask, no mask, two masks, no masks, etc.
The CDC and WHO contradict each other.

The Amish simply kept on with life, many got sick in the beginning. The virus ran it's course and the Amish hardly skipped a beat. No fear-mongering, no political campaigning, no tinfoil hats, etc. Just sensible actions by sensible folk. I tried to be sensible.  I figured I'm faced with a virus that ranges from unpleasant to serious. A very few people die while having covid (covid doesn't kill, more hype), but the recovery rate is, depending on the studies, somewhere over 98%. The other side of that coin is a vaccine that I could have a serious reaction to, and that has no track record to go off of.
I tested positive a week ago (6 days). I slept for more or less 24 hours. My trunk and thighs ached for about 3 days. Currently I have a cough. That's pretty typical for me with my jacked up lungs. I feel mentally sluggish. Other than that, I've felt some version of good since Tuesday. Pretty much like any flu I've had.

Knock it off. This thread has been informative and civil thus far and now you are trying to start something.

And there we go. Others say how many shots they've had, what symptoms they had when they got it, and the severity. I do the same, and explain why I didn't get vacced and I'm starting something? This is exactly why I've kept my mouth shut for 2.5 years and kept stuff to myself. We live in a day an age when differing opinions/beliefs are not allowed.

You did not just share shots and symptoms. Your post was in no way comparable to prior posts.

I hope it is all right to respond to just this part.

Although, it is likely very correct that a lot of reports of death (especially currently) are the result of dying "while also having COVID" and the ultimate source of death is clearly something else, I think it is highly nieve to think that COVID does not kill.  You may be only referring to the more recent versions, and that is probably generally true, but it's certainly not true of the initial versions.

You could say it's the gasoline leak (underlying conditions) in your Miata is what caused it to burn down but you have to admit the match I threw in the engine compartment (COVID) was a primary cause of the fire.

At this point, and even in the past year or so, you really need to either have a LOT of co-morbidities or be super unlucky to be hospitalized or killed by COVID, but it's also clear that some very much still need to / should be careful (there are a lot of people with co-morbidities around).

The changing science.

That. Is. How. Science. Works.  They didn't have a COVID-19 Emergency Handbook so we got recommendations based on experience and initial observations.  Early on, when Italy was the hot spot, there were all kinds of dispatches from doctors on the ground that the virus lived forever on surfaces, which is how we ended up with doctors telling us how to wash our groceries (!).  Because they didn't know yet.  That's how it works.

Living almost within view of NYC AND having a niece who is a Nurse Practitioner in Manhattan, I can only say that your interpretation of what happened there is ... flawed.  There were never bodies stacked in Central Park.  You made that up.  There were never "thousands dropping dead in NYC daily" either.  You made that up too.  They DID have 20,000 deaths in two months, completely overwhelming morgues, funeral homes, and cemeteries.  There were refrigeration trucks filled with bodies.  It took more than a year to bury some of them.

It's really difficult to counter 'I don't believe in science or the media' (because they're all liars?) but I would suggest reading this: https://time.com/5839056/new-york-city-burials-coronavirus/   Again, 20,000 dead in NYC in two months.

Living in a small community in FL, you enjoyed a massive advantage.  Whether you took it seriously or not, many of your neighbors probably did so hospitals weren't overwhelmed.  By the time the virus migrated to your area, doctors had a much better handle on what works and doesn't too.
