Don't mind me, it's just a rant.

If you want a CX-5 Sport (the only model that can be had with a clutch) you get 3 color choices: Black, Gray, or Silver.

Actually, that's a lie - none of those are colors at all!

What gives with the absence of actual colored paint nowadays?

Offering the manual seems to be Mazda proving that they "get it" while simultaneously proving that the "don't get it."

Because they know you and two other people will buy one, so they want to make sure you all have a different color.

I was under the impression most new cars only came in black, white, gray, silver, or beige?

I actually have the CX-5 on my list of possibilities if I purchase a new car next year. I like the styling, I like the fuel economy, and I like the size. Makes more sense to get something like this instead of a C or B segment car.

Those are the three most popular colors

If someone put a gun to my head and forced me to buy a new car.....a CX-5 would be high on my list. They are way more lively to drive than I expected. Sort of like a non-ugly Juke with more usable space.

I drove an auto in and around L.A. last year and it returned 28mph with constant flogging. Great steering, a nice interior, and enough ground clearance to make gravel roads fun---- I'd imagine a manual would be great choice.

At least the colors available aren't screaming orange, or lime green. Subtle colors don't attract Johnny Law like bright colors......I prefer to blend in and go ignored.

I think that White is the absence of all color, black is all colors mixed together.

Buy a gray or silver one and take it to your local sign shop and have it wrapped. Time to get rid of it, peel the wrapper off, you get the color you want and no issues with resale when you are ready for something else.

That is exactly what I think wraps are good for.

That's a mighty fine idea. I've been considering an E90 and all I come up with are black and silver around here. And when I see more than 2 dozen on a 1 mile walk through Boston every morning I want a different color.

Also why is it that a lot of new car companies only offer a manual in the lowest model. Years ago I thought of looking at a Fusion. I would've like an AWD 6 cylinder but the only way to get the 3rd pedal was to get the smallest motor, no frills car they had.

The manual Fusion with the smaller motor was my favourite of the lineup - it handled the best and felt most balanced.

I wouldn't be able to live with myself every time I opened a door and saw the beige underneath. Chevy is painting their cheapest car (the Spark) in 21 colors, all with a stick. It's not like it's hard for Mazda to offer the other colors or put the stick in other trims. (Ford offers the manual in their top-line Titanium trim on the Fiesta and Focus and the mid-level SE trim on the Fusion, packaged with the 1.6L EcoBoost, good combo).

cx5 is really high on my next car list too. bigger than my accent and more practical, AND would get better mpg.

also as a side note, i think they look just about perfect with the H&R lowering springs. not too low, just right.

the CX5 is on my list for next yr ...not ecstatic about the colors and it would have to be a manual (not crazy about the gas milage ... looking for something in the 40's highway)

No, you are both right. pinchvalve for pigments(paint) and Javelin for light.

Doesn't the body get painted before they bolt anything on to it? How does Mazda save money by restricting color choice on the lowest trim level?

Powdercoat the wheels gloss black and that white one up there would look pretty good.

Yup. Too bad white is not a color choice for the Sport model :(

I realize that .... which is (for it's other attributes) is why it's only on my "to look at list" ... and why I mentioned that besides the color limitations, the milage, while good, was something that might make me look elsewhere ...

but I still like the car (CUV thingie)

seems like with the right commute and driving habits you can hit 40mpg with the CX5.

Ive got my 33hwy rated Accent up to 41mpg before, but typically pull around 35-37mpg commuting.
