So... Are they painting the raw metal edge left behind?

Also, I'll take an air saw to your car for free.

I'm at Motorama near Toronto today and spotted an RWB Porsche. Looks pretty well-done from what I can see.

Anyone have an idea what it cost to have your car "blessed" by RWB ?

Just the body kit , no mechanical

I really wish I could come up with a gimmick like this.

I would pay to watch you work.  Just to see your interactions and comments that you make.

I don't believe we have met, but I think you might be one of the funniest people I am aware of.

In reply to wvumtnbkr :

Bring a helmet, in addition to the colorful language the performance may include tool throwing.

The gimmick doesn't matter. It's the marketing. Find something. Convince one rich person they need it. That'll convince 10 more THEY need it.

Tell those 10 they can't have one.

Instant market demand. People will do anything to outdo the next guy, and rich guys are worse than most.

Ball caps are "only" $45-65 each , but sold out ... ?

$25k for the body kit does not see  super crazy , but I wonder if it adds anything to the resale value in 5-10 years or is a negative ?

No mention of how much to install it and how much extra for puppy chow :)

I don't find that body kit all that bad.

High dollar kit, high dollar car, high dollar designer...  and sheet metal screws?  I am guessing it's part of the "charm".

I don't have a problem with the body kit. I just don't get flying some dude out to bolt it on for you so you can say you had the special dude bolt it on. But "provenance" isn't an easy thing to justify other than to the next person.

Or part of the disdain for the customer.

It reminds me of that HGTV Show Extreme Makeover when they fixed up houses with big fancy designers snd Ty Pennington and later some families ended up with shoddy work and crazy high property tax bills.

I think they look awesome, but given the money for one, I wouldnt buy one of them.

Very good looking, but not something I would ever pay for (IF I had that sort of money)

Its always felt like the mystique was because he came from Japan and was put on some sort of pedestal because of it (he isn't the only one, as I've seen other Japanese tuners being put on a higher pedestal too). Then seeing some of the process I didn't seem impressed, the body kit and stuff are shipped over, but the paint is all handled by a local body shop, once car and kits are all prepped and ready he comes in and cuts it up and installs it all on say a base 993 or 964.

That being said I don't blame him making money that way

That kid hovering looks painfully cringe.

I think the body kit looks cool but not $24k cool.

This is brand marketing on speed.

Probably why I'm not really interested.

I'll preface this by saying I kind of like the RWB aesthetic and horbor no ill will toward Mr. RWB or anone who wants one of his creations.

But so much of the appeal of these cars is wrapped up in their creator and his personal brand. And that's kind of cool, too, but also it mens that every RWB owner is just one cancelable offense by the dude away from having an expensive paperweight.

And, again, I'm not saying i know anything untoward about this guy, but if I was basing my work on my personal brand, I probably wouldn't make "being an aloof weirdo" such a key to my personal brand. Maybe that adds to the mystery, though. I dunno. I'll never have enough money to make it worthwhile to find out, anyway, so even if they do find a whole hatbox full of human ears in his van it's no skin off my back.

Did the value of Von Dutch cars take a dive after people found out how goose-steppy he was?

Don't think so. His stuff still brings good money at auction.

Some people are able to separate the artist from the art.

MJ still gets played on the radio.
