I'm just gonna keep Amy hunting.

It was indeed inconsistent. First the Exxon thread was locked, with reason (and for a reasonable decision in my opinion, but perhaps a bit harsh ... look back). Then, several hours later, it was mysteriously unlocked, other than a veiled comment about ... well, I won't say. Look back. Unfortunately this issue is spread over two or three threads. But the problem of inconsistency is prevalent. I don't know about you, but to me that's inconsistent. Hence my comment that consistency would be good. So I agree with you that it's not worth discussing further, because as we keep this going it serves only to increase our post count. Which is what the Exxon post in question was originally locked for, as I recall. And I agreed with that decision. Look back.

A subtle nudge (or slap on the head when merited) via PM doesn't work?
I agree with Margie's reasoning for shutting down the Exxon thread. But unlocking it only submits to outside pressure from antagonists. "Disgust" with the issue is irrelevant and shouldn't impact the original decision to lock it.
I like the original proposal at the top of this thread.
In reply to Gary:
It was not disgust with the topic. It was disgust with the people that got butt hurt when it was closed.
Another appropriate word would be exasperation.
Disgust = Exasperation
But shouldn't bow to outside pressure. Otherwise it's, well ... inconsistent.

Come on man. Remember your epic threads from the past? Before you kind of grew up? I'm not knocking you, and in an Internet never met you way, I like you, but you did have some of the major troll threads back in the day.
I'm also bothered that Margie is 'tapping out' so to speak. I don't like that at all, but also don't know what the answer is. I wonder what Tim and Tommy , now Tom but a lot of us will always think of him as Tommy, have to say. I'm a member of a lot of forums, but like many here, this is my go to forum because of the dynamic. I do agree that there can be a little too much bickering, but overall I feel like it's a forum to be proud of.
Sometimes we all need to step away from the keyboard for a bit. Margorie, please don't stay gone for long.
I wish we had a feature where everyone could up or down vote a thread, with each forum member getting one vote per thread. If the whole thread gets downvoted by enough members it gets auto-locked.
Definitely a forum to be proud of!!!
I think Tim has a lot more responsibility on his shoulders than to be concerned with what goes on in these forums. Tom is definitely on the rise, but Margie still has a major "say" in daily operations. So I would take Margie's comments very seriously (as I have done from past experience).

Umm. I was referring to her original idea. I didn't read the whole thread. What are you talking about?
I certainly don't want Margie to go away. But I understand needing to take a break.
I owe margie a big favor from about 6 years back that I still haven't repaid. Will do one day.
In reply to Datsun1500:
There was another thread started by someone who got locked out of the original that also contributed to things going from bad to dumpster fire.
It was about what Margie said ... posting one's opinion ad nauseum for the sole purpose of gaining post count. The person who starts the thread knows it's controversial, knows he's going to have an opportunity to post multiple opinions of his absolute "knowledge" on the topic, and thereby display how intelligent he is, as well as add 20-30 more posts to his count. I think Margie is onto that scam, and I agree. It seems to be the same protagonists ... with high post counts ... which really means nothing in terms of what this forum is about. But by now, I think we know who the real "dorks" are.
Bravenrace is alive and around and active. He just posted recently w/n the past day or so.

But I'm disappointed that he doesn't continue his Friday afternoon drinking thread he started back in the spring "Well that didn't take long." (Maybe I'll help).
Guys
I am deeply troubled by the post back on the first page of this thread by GPS that was directed at Marjorie. That was just wrong. It was belittling, demeaning and insulting. There is a line in society and it was crossed. This is one that is deeply offensive to many. I had my wife read it and she was appalled by the GPS post.
If the ban hammer was not dropped I will be surprised.
But this got me thinking. GRM gets paid for the advertising on this board and like it or not we all have a responsibility to GRM with respect to this. I know that if I was an advertiser I would not want my name associated with the first page post by GPS.
The fact that Marjorie even bothered to ask our opinion about how to manage things shows a tremendous amount of respect for us but with it comes a tremendous responsibility.
At the moment I feel that we have let her down and I don't know what to do about it.

if Margie has stepped away (after unlocking the Exon thread) then you, I, any of the other Mods can still go in and re-lock it shrug
I go away to the hospital (with lousy WIFI, and just as bad of a Win laptop, and all this happens

Bad idea. I +1 people who post funny things as well as things I agree with. I'm pretty sure that others do the same.
