Work is sending me to sunny, warm and snow free Lenexa Kansas next week. I've been there a few times over the last few years. Work travel is usually 12+ hours days of hotel-office-hotel but this time I have another guy going with me. He is also a bit screwed in the head and is down for trying to fit in a junk yard or something during the trip. Can anybody recommend a good self serve yard in the area? Im going to monitor craigslist in case that POS I dont need and cant live without shows up.

Kansas must not get much snow. This town is shut down. Totally shut down. Pretty much every business and restaurant is closed. Nobody is on the roads. There is maybe 6 inches or so. I made it to where I needed to be in a Dart with Conti SpinMaster 5000 tires. Im trying not to be the jaded Michigander but I have never seen an overreaction like this. No junkyards for us and it looks like we will be eating hotel food.

When you never get snow that means you don't have the equipment to deal with snow. I don't mean just the city, I mean the people too.

What's a snow tire?

What are chains?

You mean we need sand for the roads? How will we spread it?

Michiganders have all that stuff, but people who live in real areas don't.

I'll take a few shut downs any day rather than have to deal with that stuff on a regular basis.

You ought to see what happens when it snows around here. At the first sign of a flake everything is closed. At the hint that possibly sometime in the future, it might snow, they close schools. Then again idiots around here can't drive in the rain so snow would just really berkeley things up.

Heh. I hate to think what would happen if it snowed here in the SF bay area and actually accumulated a half an inch on the ground. The whole place would be shut down for a week!

OTOH, I was in New York a couple years ago when they had that teeny tiny earthquake. What an overreaction. :)

In reply to codrus:

Ouch, I'm thinking that one burned just a little.

shoot, you're on the SC coast ... I can understand the snow phobia ... sorta ... but here in the mountains ? you just described our reaction to the mere thought of the stuff

How long ya in town? There are four decent self serve yards in the metro area. Two of them at 435 And Truman rd. On on 12th street n kck. And another in liberty

Whatcha looking for?

And no. People round here are not equipped to deal with 12 plus inches of snow
