Last night I'm walking the dogs and I run into a guy who just came off the bike trail behind out neighborhood. He's got a serious long-distance setup going, but is in the middle of nowhere at 9:30 at night. He asks me if there are any shops nearby where he can grab something to eat and crash behind for the night in his tent. Uhhh, not for 20 miles, where ya headed? LAX he says. So I say come on, I'll get you a hot meal. He could use a shower and some clean laundry, and it's raining, so crashing for the night was the only humane thing to do.
Warren is a really interesting character, biking across the USA to raise awareness for Autism and overcome some of his own struggles with it. I give the guy a lot of credit. Check out his Facebook page at JFKTOLAX and if you see him on the side of the road looking like he could use a warm bed for the night, take him in. You'll be glad you did.

My hats off to pinchvalve for actually making the choice to help and putting it into action. That one choice has made this world a better place.

Walking a cat and being a good Samaritan. Put the obstructed valve dude in a very small demographic. Note that his life was enriched because of the second activity, not sure about the first.
Everything about this is awesome. Good on you, and your wife, and warren of course.
I liked his page, I wonder where he'll cross through Illinois.
Thanks for posting this, needed a bit of a pick-me-up this evening! Good on you for helping him out!
Any idea of his planned route? If he's going straight west, he should hit my area by tomorrow-ish. Hopefully he has fenders and a rainsuit!
Latest FB posting says he's in Steubenville, OH but he gives a shout out to the Schneider family and hot showers!

Site does not give route (or I did not find it) but from Steubenville, OH Route US 36 would take you to Denver, CO. That's my guess.

Wow. Good on you, pinchvalve! There's some great karma for you!
That is pretty treacherous for him to do solo.
up until last august when she retired, my mom worked in the grocery store of a very small town that has a paved bike trail running thru it that hooks up to other bike trails that lead all over the state, which hook up to trails that lead all over the country... she met a few people exactly like this every summer for the 10 years that she worked at that store. seems like everyone wants to ride their bikes to raise awareness for something or other once the weather starts getting warm.
I've been following Warren on the book of faces; after seeing today's update, I figured I should drop an update here:
Unfortunately he was hit by a DUI driver's mirror in KC last night; 'good' news is that nothing broken and has been released from the hospital already. The berkleytard who tagged him has been arrested already.
His FB page:
Cycle Across America for Autism Awareness
Wow that's awesome. Glad he's ok
I saw that, pretty scary stuff. I hope that the damage and injuries are not enough to derail his plans.
I'm glad they caught the driver.

I'm equally concerned about his mental status and willingness to get back on the horse - an incident like that can mess with your mind.
Sounds like he's got a great support network in KC to get him back on the road, though.
