In car sleeping area, early forester?

Is there some way with seat folding and such to get a flat(ish) 6' spot in a first generation Forester for one person to sleep? Seat removal and platform fabrication are on the table, but should be reversible.

I slept curled up in the front seats of a Golf with my knees under the steering wheel and the handbrake lever jammed between my ribs and my pelvis. A Forester is a hotel room in comparison.

I ask because there is an $800 fozzy for sale near me, and I'm applying for a job with a 4/4/3/3 two week rotation. A sleepable car and a planet fitness membership for showers would let me go on mini vacations every other week for the cost of gas and food.

Or if I plan to do this regularly, should I just step up to a minivan?

A chrysler with Stow-n-Go will be a far better bet and more than likely has factory privacy tint in the rear.

I like the idea, in my '85 Subi wagon there was ample room for two to "play" in the back with the rear seats folded flat. If some window tint and padding puts you into a comfy place, I say go for it!

I've lived out of both a Cavalier and Forrester. Both 99's actually. The fozzy, with some extra pillows/blankets is extremely comfortable, even just throwing the front seat back. Putting down the back seats to mostly flat, was fine for my 5'10 250lb frame to sleep in comfortably.

The more I thought about it, I miss my '94(?) F-150. With the extended cab, the back seat folded flat for a sleeping area, not to mention many naps on the bench seat, and the camping trip I slept in the bed.

Jamie48442 and I slept one night in the back of the legacy wagon we had. I'd do it again. But I thought the forester was a bit shorter? In 6'1" so it may not be an issue for you, especially if you were alone and could sleep diagonally.

I'm a good bit shorter at 5'8" but I had plenty of room. Back seat folded and the passenger seat scooted forward should be enough for you.

Why not something like an Astro Safari AWD?

I used to keep a tightened down hammock in the back of my F250 I could sleep in the bed with that with minimal issues.

Subaru easy put the rear seats down and bring some pillows.

Just as another data point, a rock climbing crash pad fits exactly in the cargo area of a first gen Honda Fit. I'm 6'1" and I managed several comfortable naps, laying diagnolly

Anyone have a fozzy they could measure how much space between the lift gate and front seats? Like how tall could a person be and sleep in there? Not diagonally, as there would be two of us. It looks like the fozzy would be too short for me

On the way to the challenge, I slept in the front pass seat of my 02 outback wagon, thought about thecrear hatch , but got to lazy.

I picked up a second gen foz for my partner a couple of weeks ago, I've been meaning to lay the seats down and see how much room there is. I'm nearly 6'4" so I'll let you know how I fit and take a measurement or two while I'm at it.

A few years ago a friend and his sister were both shopping for cars at the same time. Strangely, the ability to fold the seats down and sleep was one of their top priorities. She ended up with a 2nd gen Forester and he got a Nissan Rogue. They have both slept in them several times.

Had a chance to check it out, yeah there's enough length with the front seats slid all the way forward.

Tailgate to back of front seats is about 200cm (97")x approx 99cm (39"). You'd be able to squeeze a king single mattress in so long as it's foam.

It's not going to work without a bit of innovative on your part though, there's a gap a bit over 40cm between the laid flat back seat and the front seat.
