At the moment there's these two old cars for sale in the $2012 forum with some interesting similarities: both coupes from 1976, both E36 M3ty yet-kinda-cool, both in original, period colours and at about the same price.

Plymouth Volare with a slant-6

Lancia Beta

I'd go for the Volare, myself.

I'll tie it up with a vote for the Beta.

As would I. 2" body drop, cut the fenders, big meaty tires, not-quite-gutted interior, and big, cammy engine swap. And then drive it on the street.

Aspen?

To answer the question, Volare.

Aspen crossed my mind, were they both 2 door and 4 door then?

Would depend on what the purpose of the car is for me. If reliable and roomy is what I want it for then Volare. If fun and sporty is my desire then Beta.

They definitely had a wagon. The wife and I almost bought one.

If you listen closely, you can hear these two cars racing each other to see which can become an oxidized pile of iron filings faster.

Seriously, can anyone else think of another vehicle that should be atop Mount Rustmore than these two designs?

Oh, and Beta all the way if you're choosing between the two. And I really like Volares.

Vega, of course. As well Toyota trucks, the Datsun 240Z, the current Dodge trucks, etc.

I had a 79 Aspen Wagon. Without a doubt the worst car I've ever owned. That said, the Volare pictured above is kind of cool for some reason. THAT SAID, I'd go for the Lancia, no question.

If the Lancia was low on rust I would want it mainly becauce LANCIA!

Otherwise I would gladly take the Volare, slant 6 and all.

Volare. They're both going to rust to death and are piles of E36 M3, but I'm going to go with the one I know.

E: E36 M3balls. Why did I have to look. 1k and close to me? GODDAMNIT.

For everyone who didnt choose the Lancia I can only assume you've never driven one.

Beta all the way.

I also choose the Beta, since you can drive one across the spine of Africa, just don't lose the cardboard.

The irony of this pairing just struck me. These two are simultaneously cousins and orphans.
