The original GT-R listed at around $70,000. At some point, they will depreciate to what? $40,000? That is a great price for such a capable car. I mean, that's loaded Minivan money for a supercar. I checked AutoTrader and found a 2009 for $40,000. Might not be real, but I bet in a few years this will be the used-car deal of the century.

Probably a good deal in terms of performance per dollar, but I still don't want to own one those. They just do not appeal to me in the least.

Hahaha no. Have you forgotten how much common consumables for that car cost? Think new sportbike money for a set of brake pads. Aftermarket parts are also ludicrously expensive because the aftermarket knows that GTR owners are filthy rich.

Also consider this: A Corvette is 7/8 of the performance for 1/2 the money.

As long as you can afford to maintain it, I'd say yes.

I don't expect to see them get down to $40k as soon as you do.

Or the 27K transmissions that are made effectively of glass in the 07's, the forced service costs, or the fluids that are made of gold.

At one point at a show I was talking a with a friend who had swapped his F430 for a GT-R and the GT-R was more expensive to run with some track days thrown in.

I bet after consumeables, it is more like 1/3 the price over a 5 year ownership.

First year gtr at a high end used lot three years ago sold for 60k so I can see it happening. As said above they rape you with consumables but I still want one more than a vette. If I only had 30k id buy a z06 hands down, amd have quite a bit left over

A lot of the performance was the super sticky tires from the factory. I remember people discussing the benefits of putting GT-R spec tires on Vipers, and the performance detriments of NOT putting the OEM tires on the GT-R.

If you want a 450hp 4000lb car, get an '92-95 Audi S4/S6, a decent turbo, engine management to control it, and gummy tires. As a bonus, you get a transmission that won't explode if you launch it more than twice. The engine internals are more than strong enough for 450 crank HP, although not terribly much more.

As a further bonus, you get to drive something that doesn't look like a GT-R.

$15k C5 + $25k in mods - Seeya GTR.

But you still don't have a GTR.

ahh yes but C5 with $25K in mods might as well have a 3 tattooed on your forehead and go to the Hair Club for Men to get your mullet permanently stitched on.

A GTR is every ricers halo car but every ricer can't afford one. Eventually all vettes go down to 5 year newer Camaro prices.

And the GTR will not try to put you in a ditch every time there is rain in a 200 mile radius like your modded C5 would. Remember Ditches love Vettes.

Personally, if I wanted to drive something that felt like a videogame, you can get a PS3, a wheel, a high-def TV, and a copy of GT5 for not quite as much money. And you also get to drive an RS200, which is nice.

I've been around a number of them at track days. Sometimes a student will have classroom sessions while the instructor group is on track, so to take them out with me in my (ratty '98 M3) I'll go out with the advance group. They go OK on the straights, but either all the owners can't drive, or the don't go around corners, cause they're all doing pathetic lap times.

They're heavy, and heavy cars are not fun. Ever.

Well since we have completely jacked this thread from is a $40K GTR a possiblility in the near future with C5 talk. I might as well just finish it off.

Light weight - check
Obnoxious ability - check
Unique - check

(Yes, I have put a Corvette into a ditch. In my defense, I was 17 and my father had far too much faith in me, bless his heart. And for the record, I went in backward, and hard.)

Have you actually driven one to know they "make terrible drivers awesome" or are you just parroting what all the cool kids have written on the intertubes?

I think that you can have a Busa version of this built for you and shipped to your house for like 20K with miata suspension setup (ie THE ANSWER ) that will weigh 1100 lbs dry and rip almost anything apart. Add a small dollop of boost (4k) and you are scratching 300 hp and 1200 lbs. That is Zonda territory! Sorry, geek moment over.

You see you say these things and you don't post links to help me spend my kids college tuition.

Don't think that doesn't make you an enabler, I know how to work the Google machine.
