I am looking at WRX's tonight on craigslist and a "family owned" guy has a WRX for sale in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Once I saw this photo I realize he must be an idiot or am just MAYBE I just some old curmudgeon guy now since I turn 55 years old in 34 days?
Is this a good idea youngsters?
Is this equal to my Dad and his stupid love for padded vinyl roofs, big wide white walls, and continental tire kits out back?
That may be the best Darwin award winning precursor photo i have seen lately.

Yep, self cleaning gene pool.
I will say that i have had a steering wheel come off in my hands while driving more than once.
But i didn't hang that berkeleyer out the window, and it sure as hell wasn't on purpose!
I hope this isn't a real thing. "Ghost ridin' the whip" was bad enough...
If it's a thing, you know someone's dropped it while hanging it out the window...
But enough levity. That's berkeleying stupid.
If there was an accident, no matter what happened, he'd be at fault. And have the book thrown at him. Can you see the judge saying something like "You removed your steering wheel on purpose!?!?"
Guaranteed that WRX is haggared, as most of them in Wisconsin are. Gotta dig deep to find a nice bugeye.
yea, I had one come off accidently once (PO removed the nut and never reinstalled it) and I have to say that the scariest couple of moments in my life.
That's gotta be a spare wheel hung out the window for show. I know people are STUPID, but really? Toonces the driving cat wouldn't even do that and all his trips ended in a ball o' fire..
If it's Wisconsin all the roads are absurdly straight. Like "decent alignment and drive for 10 miles without touching the wheel" straight. This guy is just proving the car has a good alignment.

I've played that gag before. Fortunately the car was rhd, and I was the passenger.

I was a passenger in a FIAT Strada when the steering wheel fell off. I kind of wish it meant the end to that car, but sadly, we survived.
Wisconsin? The rusty steering shaft probably snapped off in his hands as they were taking the shot.
It's been a "thing" for a while.

Yeah I thought this fad went out with tF&tF graphics and fart-can mufflers. EDIT: Raceland coil overs, run away.

I have just returned from Wisconsin. This comment is not accurate. Visit the Kettle Moraine area--- plenty of amazing roads, hill, turns----it's wonderful.

Yeah--there are parts of it that are flat and boring, but overall I do not consider it straight at all. No, its not corkscrew type turns like Tail of the Dragon, but it is pretty nice to drive through for the most part.
I didn't think you could confuse Kansas with Wisconsin.
^^^ or Nebraska. Driving through either Kansas or Nebraska on the interstate is enough to make me eager for the autonomous future!
Wisconsin though? Nah--- I love WI. It's one of the country's best kept secrets. People who aren't from the Midwest don't seem to realize that it's even there......
But yes......driving without a steering wheel is all kinds of stupid. It seems with each passing generation kids feel the need to "one-up" the stupidity of their forebears. This is an excellent example. "Dude that Ghost Riding your Whip was mad tyte yo! How could we ever top that...." Dude I've got an idea....
No lie, I watched someone do this while going down highway 50 in MD in moderate traffic. My old Miata seemed to stand as an attention-grabber and silent challenge for all the cheap tuner crowd in Maryland.
Guy in a ratty Accord blew by me on the highway, hit the brakes to come back beside me. I look over and he's looking at me holding his steering wheel outside the car. Then he snapped it back on and shot away. He certainly showed me!
Like I said, this is on highway 50 on Kent Island, about a mile before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. It's a traffic funnel that gets backed up all the time.
