Often I find myself referring to GRM as a car club, or to people here on the board as fellow club members etc.
Do you consider this a car club? Or just a cult of creative cheap-asses?

I refer to it as "my racing forum" or going out with "the car guys" when telling coworkers and family about plans etc.
If this is a club, I certainly enjoy the newsletter it cranks out ;)
Had this debate on another similar forum that caters to 4x4. They likened their forum to the campfire where folks are gathered to swap stories.
If asked by someone (of the non GRM persuation), "where did you learn/hear that?" I typically answer, "the race car guys or racecar buddies."
It's not a car-club, as far as Carlisle is concerned.
So cult or disease would be the best and most accurate description.

I think club is appropriate in the same sense as:
Being in the "Herpes Club"
Not really a club, but clearly there is a common situation...
It could also be called a support group. The world's worst support group
"Hi I'm Bill and I'm an alcoholic."
"Nice to meet you, everyone give Bill a hand! clap clap clap Now today we've got a nice big jug of moonshine, if anyone wants the maker's number just ask..."
Groucho Said it best -- I don;t want to belong to any club that will accept people like me as a member.
I’m not sure about a club, but my wife’s response is normaly ‘of course, GRM, the fountain of all knowledge’ whenever I bring up the forum.
OK Staff, how about making it a club and getting SCCA and NASA affiliation. Charge say $40 a year with the magazine free? That way you can enter club events etc? Could it work?
Magazines can have clubs. When I was a kid I was in Club Homeboy, which was part of the BMX Action / Freestylin' world. So there's that.
