I missed all the deals on netbooks last year, but ended up getting an Asus EEE PC after the holidays for $299. Now my wife wants one, so I got up early & started surfing. Cheapest "real" netbook I found was $279.00-shipped. Not exactly the deal I was looking for.
I figured no problem, I'll just get one with either no OS, or Ubuntu pre-loaded. They were more $$$.
Of course, there's those $99 ones from CVS, but the reviews aren't very good on them.
Yeah, I haven't seen anything particularly mind blowing. Guess I don't need to be spending money like that anyway.
We thought we'd get grandma a new TV for Christmas. I wasn't about to spend 30 hours in the Target parking lot for their very attractively priced Black Friday loss-leader. (40" 1080 LCD for $300)
So far, online deals have been very disappointing. Didn't expect to find the Target deal, but was hoping for better than I've seen so far....
The message board spammers are definitely working overtime. I've killed 6 this morning, that's way more than average.
"Cyber Monday" is just the result of the media having nothing to do, in my opinion. Or the concept that since sales are so good on the three-day weekend, that extending it to four days will increase sales by 33%.
Unfortunately, the latter really works on my wife and her mother. I'm going to take away their cellphones so they stop telling each other about awesome "deals". Turns out we need a cherry red washer/dryer set to replace our boring white ones...
Rattle can paint job should fix that
Trust me, I've offered a bunch of times.

well, if it's gonna make her more excited to clean your shop clothes without bitching.... (ducks)
I haven't seen many killer deals this year, either. Interesting.

The local paper was declaring this Shopping Season as a victory for stores. I guess maybe the sales are strong enough that they don't need to give stuff away this year to get people thru the door.
Ive been trying all morning to find a coupon code or some discount on the Wifi Kindle for SWMBO - reg price isnt terrible at $140, but If I could save even $15-$20, that would make it less painful! Alas, no deals are to be had!
Ah, OK, I guess it's not just me.
I bought a 47" Vizio LCD TV from Amazon for $599. It wasn't irresistable but it was no tax and free shipping and I needed a TV.
I hate netbooks. They are slow and worthless. Considering you can get a cheap pentium powered laptop for $300 up here in canuckland, I can only imagine what you can get down in the states.

Some people happen to like the compact size and outstanding battery life.
Yeah I was really hoping for a cheap netbook with SSD and Ubuntu for around $125.00.

I've been considering a netbook, since pretty all I use a computer for at home is web surfing... although if it can run Vag-Com, that would be a bonus.
I did most of my Christmas shopping weeks ago as soon as the other half gave me the wish-list. That said, I'm about to go on Amazon right now to look for something... although purely coincidence that it's 'Cyber-Monday."
not sure if it works yet, but I came up with an Amazon coupon code:
SCTENOFF
supposedly good for $10 off $50 or more items.
Lemme know if it works!
EDIT: it doesnt

My wife hates how I fold clothes, sort the clothes, use the wrong hangers, and I don't take them out of the dryer soon enough to hang them up.
So I have learned to give the little lady everything she wants in this room so I can stay far away. (except those pedestals as I insist I can make plywood boxes for less)

Find me the $300 laptop that weighs under 3 pounds and has an 8 hour battery life and I'll be all over it.

Uh, you can only have two of the three.
My wife loves her netbook. For her use, it's perfect. We'll sometimes take it with us when we travel and I don't feel like carrying my 15" laptop.
As for the red washer/dryer combo - my point was that we didn't NEED a new washer/dryer until there was an amazing, never-before-seen, absolutely best ever price (until the next one) sale on cherry red washers and dryers. And then they were sold out! So we somehow went from being fine to having to spend between $1000-2000 on a new washer/dryer because of the damn advertising and my mother-in-law's well-intentioned gossiping. I do my best to make the laundry room work well for Janel, and completely reworked the room a few years ago for her. But some things are a bit ridiculous.
One of the best definitions I've heard in a while. It's certainly true around our house.
A man will spend $20 on a $10 item he needs.
A woman will spend $10 on a $20 item she doesn't need.

Go ahead and carve that in stone...

In a netbook, you can have all three.
