I actually had this argument the other day. Sure the guy they're suing is probably a scumbag for trying to market off the success of Ken Block, without him actually being there. I get that. My big issue is that instead of just trying to bury everyone that is attempting to bring motorsport to the masses, why not help them? What have we had... two actual KB/DC/Monster/whatever Gymkhana events? Seems like a horrible way to let the sport languish, especiallly when you only make it accessible to guys with deep pockets and corporate sponsorships.

There's a difference between "Gymkhana" and "gymkhana."

Think.... "Rolex Series" vs. "road racing."

Right, I get that, but it seems asinine to me to capitalize one letter and think you get to copyright it now. I think if they're going to continue, KB camp should probably copyright something that hasn't been the name of the sport since before he laced up his DC driving shoes. When drifting came to the states, they called it Formula D- not Drifting. Seems that it should work the same here.

Agreed. I can't find it at the moment, but i love the gymkhana video (possibly from England) of the tiny microcar (possibly a Honda?) navigating an impossibly small parking lot course that involved forwards motion, backwards motion, 360s, etc. Anyone remember that video? It was mind-boggling. I couldn't imaging trying to memorize the course.

It was a Mini. There's also a guy in a 7 or 7 clone that has to be seen to be believed, too.

I think it was one of those things that just kindof grew... They were using "Gymkhana" as the title of his little feature films before this all went down, which put him in the weird position of having to protect the title, at the risk of looking like a bag of douche.

It's all due to the unfortunate name choice.

you know, thats really not too bad of an argument. Was it stupid for him to think he can claim that word because he capitalized it? yeah, pretty much. Is it ok for asstards to rant about him needing to die in a fire because of it? no, not really. If you want to call the guy out on his driving skill, well, I'd LOVE to see some of the haters strap in and do the same thing he can. Apparently, jealous 8 year olds just never grow up. In reply to DukeOfUndersteer:

Wow. And he did it in one take, not a bunch of them like Block. I'm sure that car was set up to do that, but that's impressive nonetheless. The first time I saw a Block video, some guy at work showed it to me and was really excited about how he did donuts around a cone or person or something. He said "There's only a handfull of people in the world that could do that!" I got a garbage can, put it in the parking lot, got in my Solstice GXP and proceeded to do 10 perfect donuts around the can. He was speechless. I wasn't that good, which was my point.

Exactly. And the one time he actually competed in an event- one that HE designed, made the rules for, etc? Tanner Foust won. That tells me a lot. Granted, he has done a lot for WRC/ProRally in general- but I think there could be a better way to approach it.

You have a point, but it would be a worthy end.....

I'm just pointing out the simple fact that he isn't anywhere close to as good as many of those in the group B era.

Sure, he does stuff on pavement and dirt, but honestly, I think he is just an attention whore and he is good at marketing himself. My gripe is the uneducated dumbasses that blindly follow KB and claim he is an awesome rally driver....which is why I think a rs200 would be his coffin.

For the record, In reply to whomever claimed nascar fans on page 1, not a nascar fan, not a f1 fan, not a drag racing fan, not an x games fan, not a drifting fan, I am a rally and road racing fan.

Agreed. I can't hate KB for his marketing skill, he's done himself VERY well turning hooning into something somewhat legitimate. We can't deny there's been a bajillion KB clones over the years, shooting random vids and posting it. The Vanwagon comes to mind. Couple that with the big money he has from pushing the extreme sports craze with DC shoes- and you have a giant stomping all over the place.

Problem is- instead of using it for good, and pushing the sport more, getting it out there, and using the name that he's supposedly copyrighted (and probably shouldn't have been able to anyhow) to get more racing out there and get more people interested in something beyond watching (an admittedly) very entertaining videos on Youtube..... he's using it for eeeeevil. Keeping a name for yourself and not even running events with the name attached is a sure way to keep people like me from wanting to be a part of it, when i'm normally the type of person that if there's a track, and I can get on it, I want in. I don't care WHAT the sport is. Rallyx, drag, drift, autox, stock car, dirt track, hell, RC CAR, I wanna race. I don't see myself wanting to participate in an event of his even if it IS accessible, due to things like this.
