So, I had my Android on top of my tool box with a cup of coffee right next to it. Coworker decided my phone really needed a drink of coffee...
I've taken it completely apart, blew it off with compressed air, done the "in a bag of rice" trick, let it sit out overnight, ect. Nothing has worked. Is my phone basically done for, or is there a way to bring it back to life? I can power up, but the screen does not boot up. No, I didn't have insurance on it and I really don't want to go buy a new phone, but if it's really screwed, I won't have any other choice.
(Surgeon)Doctor, no, but, I was headed toward a PhD.
You mention that you have tried turning it on. You may have the steps out of sequence.
First you need to get it very dry (rice, air, heat, etc) but not until you are confident that it is dry should you actually turn it on.
I suspect you tried to power it while it was still wet and it may have fried.
Sorry, for your loss.
What handset with which carrier?
You may be able to source a reasonable priced used/refurb'ed handset.
It's thru MetroPCS, in which you have to buy the phone when you start your service. So, it cost me like $300 a year ago.
If you have been with Metro for a year, you were a CDMA customer before Metro was bought out by T-Mobile.
Now that Tmo has bought them, the focus is to move customers over to GSM capable handsets. I would expect that they will have some price incentive to get you over to GSM.
Seems on Metro's website that they have Android handsets for as low as $0, $29, $49, etc. All still no contract.
T mobile has great deals on refurbished phones. If your on monthly rather than prepay they can break it up over like 24 months too
The phone's full of coffee residue. Here's one last trick that might revive your phone, but it's probably headed for the phone afterlife (a big pile of toxic waste in India or China that may have a landslide and kill a dude).
Rinse it thoroughly with distilled water, then return to step 1.
The vodka rinse is also popular.
I dropped my phone in a toilet right before taking my theatre final. They could hear me shout "E36 M3!" from the stage, said I had great projection. The rinse and rice- shockingly enough- worked great. A week later, I dropped it in a sink full of water. I toweled it off and the screen was wonky but otherwise fine. I was on my way to put it in rice when I dropped it on the ground and bam! Fixed. I've fixed a lot of things by dropping them on the ground. Never even cracked a screen...

And if that doesn't work, try whacking it with a hammer. A big one.
All this is why I took out the crash coverage on our phones. Yeah, it's ~$12 a month but that's cheaper than a $450 phone. Or, in my case, 2 $450 phones.
Thanks for all the advice ladies and gents. I'm gonna go look at a phone tomorrow before I take off to Watkins again
