It was -11F when I left the house. it's a heat wave, we made it out of the negatives now! 1F
Wife's car went LOLNOPE this morning and yesterday morning. It said -17 on the news when I checked.... it's a balmy 48 degrees in the heated garage!

I have driven for 15 years in Illinois and Wisconsin at ~20k miles per year and not once have I experienced "ice" that I did not anticipate would be there due to weather conditions and the road surface. I'm just wondering if this is something I haven't seen or if I've driven on "black ice" numerous times and known it as Ice.
Black ice. The car is as far up the ramp as I could go. Had to back up & get a running start at it and hit the brakes in the trailer. After getting the car in I slipped on the ice carrying a group 24 battery out to load into the trailer which split open and splashed acid all over my clothes.

Know the feeling. It's supposed to hit 70 today. But hey, we have a .01% chance of rain on Thursday, so we got that going for us.

When it gets this cold, the vapor from car exhausts will glaze the pavement at stop lights. Unless the sun is shining just right and you can see the sheen, it can be pretty much invisible - the pavement looks perfectly dry but it's like a skating rink; you can be going 5mph and you'll still skid.
single digits here but my relatives in WI/MN are feeling the hurt a lot worse.
I remember when I was in high school there my jetta's temp gauge would go down until the heat stopped blowing hot. I had to idle it at 2k rpm just to keep the heat warm!

My parents parked on that stuff once in front of my uncle's apartment. When they came out 5 minutes later, the car had slid sideways with the slight crown in the road and rested with both wheels against the curb. It's slippery stuff.

I'd tell you to wear a full head mask, but I'm not sure if I should. Twice now, my wife went for a run when it's been ~0, and both time her head sock froze solid.
She did 6 miles when the temp was -2, WC's around -15 yesterday. How, I have no idea. I would not want to do that anymore.
But I'm not a big fan of the idea that 20F is warm. I don't like winter, so that's just wierd thinking.
15 degrees with a wind chill of well below zero on Sat. 4 below Sunday morning. a little wind. This was at Tupper Lake NY for our ice races. www.icerace.com

So.... you ok?
You seem quite cold....
I think at this point, I would be perfectly happy never seeing ice that wasn't in a cooler or my glass, nor snow in anything but pictures.

In our area, like most, the bus routes get the most attention, so even with the snow we have had they are down to bare pavement. Overnight, as the temperatures cool, you can reach the dew point and moisture will condense and coat the road. In our temperatures, it freezes almost instantly. The other thing that happens is because they are salting the roads during the day you get melting, assisted by the sun. When the sun goes down the moisture refreezes.
The ice is forming on clear asphalt. It is actually clear, not black, but you can't see it. So this morning, when I left my subdivision and turned left on to the main road, my WRX wiggled both the front and back end (yay understeer and oversteer in the same corner). I wasn't going fast but the corner was icy.

Snow is wonderful - you can ski on it, sled on it, throw it at your kids, make igloos in your backyard, etc.
The change of seasons is why I love living here. I don't want 22C all the time. I enjoy -22 as much as +22.

This times eleventy billion. Born and raised in Michigan, so it's not a question of getting used to it. It's a question of being berkeleying tired of it.

At this point, I'd take -22C. That's a balmy -7 in real degrees. We've been in the -30C range for way too many days at this point. Besides, we're DINKS. No kids. so F snow. F snow right in it's dirty A. It's flat, so no skiing. Why make an igloo when I already have a warm house? The igloo doesn't have satelite TV or a couch.
I'm definitely ready for a constant temp. I think I can be perfectly fine with lows in the mid 60's, highs in the mid 80's (that's 18-29 in fake temp). Every. Single. Day.

My bathroom layout is, from the door, shower, sink, tub/toilet(opposed) The toilet is along an exterior wall. I walked in barefoot this morning over the damp shower mat, and by the time I was done pissing, my left foot had started to freeze to the floor.
A pipe let go in the basement last night, and now the building just now has heat back on and no hot water. Probably gonna be a day before the place warms back up. I'm wearing long johns and two pairs of socks, and jeans, and a flannel shirt, and I have a hot laptop in my lap, I'm kinda cold, and I dont like heat. E36 M3 sucks.
