Bumping this thread because I just caught a baby rat snake here at work that had slithered under the toilet tank. No sign it got in through the plumbing, though. It was pretty tiny and could have found its way in somewhere else.

Been there when I lived in Nigeria. Was after a particularly good staff party and I was too hung over to even care. Might have even welcomed the swifter death. Went back to bed.
One day I was working in a very old house in Boston replacing a bunch of brass water lines. There was an old toilet mounted up in the basement. It was one of those real old ones that has the wooden box about 6 feet up in the air that holds the water. It hadn't been used in decades. It was covered in rat feces. Because it hadn't been used in such a long time, there was no water in the bowl and there was a direct shot to the city sewer. It stunk real bad down there. I figured it would stink less if I filled the bowl with water and block off the smell coming from the sewer. Water was off, and the only water I had available was what was stored in the steam boiler. I drained off a couple of gallons into a 5 gallon bucket and dumped it into the bowl. Big big mistake. 8 to 10 full sized rats came back out thru the near boiling water and ran into the basement. My apprentice and I spent the rest of the day with one eye on our work and one eye looking out for rats. Managed to corner and kill several of them throughout the day.
If I ever come across an abandoned toilet in a basement somewhere, rats streaming out of it WILL BE the fist thought on my mind now. Thanks for the heads up.
