Accurate assessment. I'm guessing that while Jay was under the car he probably wasn't in the mood to talk to the TMZ paparazzi who's story was the basis
That article rang all sorts of warning bells of a bot-plagiarized article. This sentence really stood out to me: "Leno, 69, was able to borrow some tools to tamper with the car." NOBODY calls working on a car "tampering" with it; there's no way that was originally written with that wording. So I searched and found this:
which looks to be the article that the "motorious" web site stole and bot-modified with synonyms and then posted to Yahoo news. We really do live in the strangest time line.

Yes, that is probably what happened.... And before that, the daily Mail probably scraped the TMZ site. I'm just glad that the daily Mail did include the reference for their source.
