It's not going to be the same, but it's a car show. Can it be truly bad? I mean old top gear wasn't as dynamic as new top gear but it was still quite good.
I don't hate this. He's apparently quick, and can deliver 1 liners
I just hope they have him say "how you doin" to ladies that are in the audience.
He wasn't great as a guest, but I think he was jetlagged out of his mind. And of course, no script. He's got potential.
How you doin' is required.

Based off of that guest appearance I would say no. But Keith has a good point. I'll wait to pass judgment.
Change is good here. I got bored with the last few seasons. It felt like they were just using the same ideas over and over again. The cinematography got fancier and the "challenges" more outrageous, but there wasn't much of the creativity that made the show great in the first place.
I'm interested to see what the new version of the show will be like.
I think he'll do good with the script. In all the interviews I've seen him in lately he seems very downbeat. It's a polar opposite to what your used to seeing him like when he was on Friends. So as long as they have, "act excited" or "act interested" in the script I think he'll do.
Even on Graham Norton he's kinda got that Eeyor thing going on.
He played a doofus on friends, but seems like a great guy in the real world, and he's a legitimate motorsports guy too. I seem to recall him getting a serious scolding from NBC for MX racing during the filming season, there was even a video clip of him getting big, big air on a MX bike, I think I saw it when he was on with Jay Leno.
Oh, I think he'll do fine. He's quick, he's a car guy, and he's a seasoned comic actor. I just can't get over the idea of a Yank hosting a British institution like Top Gear. Curious to hear what our resident Brits think about that.

Rachel is required.
Apparently he stars in a show that airs on showtime and bbc already so it seems to be a case of them pulling from the current talent pool like with Evans.
Eh, can't say I'm excited about this. I do agree the old format was getting a bit tired, but I've never been much of a fan of his.

It was called Episodes. He basically plays himself, an aging actor that was in a hit TV show long ago. The new show he is in is written by a couple of Brits who came to Hollywood and are struggling with the the culture shock of their new environment.
I thought it was pretty darn funny. He obviously doesn't take him self seriously.
Interesting
It has me actually interested in seeing the show again. Not high hopes, but I atleast want to see
they've been playing ads for him hosting a "best of" clipshow with some of the best points of TG up to this point, with a blurb onscreen about how he was the fastest around the track..
it's the promo where The Stig is seen hanging on a rack in the back of a garage full of other memorable props from the show...
i'll give the show a try, but if i get the impression that they are trying too hard to recapture the magic of the old trio i'll bail on them just like i did with the US Top Gear after a few episodes and just use BBC America to get my Star Trek: TNG fix..
In reply to trigun7469: Ditch "the wrecker". I actually like Tanner and of course Rutlidge is one of us.
Maybe they're going to make one version of the show for both the UK and the US. I could see them filming half the episodes on each country.
Given some of the interference from the BBC that I've read about with Chris Evans re-boot of the show, I'm not carrying a lot of hopes that it will enjoyable.
I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

Matt LeBlanc is pleasant enough but doesn't have a lot of screen time on these episodes - he basically does a one minute introduction at the beginning, along with a few voice overs during the show.
