I just ordered a Pixel 7 Pro. I'm getting $440 trade-in on my Pixel 6 and a $200 Google store credit (although that has to be used by tomorrow at 11:59 pm).

So essentially a $900 phone for $260. Just thought I'd let everyone else know if you're a Pixel fan (or not) that they have a smoking deal going for their pre-orders at the moment.

And I use Pre-order lightly since my estimated delivery is within the next week.

I just got my 6 a few months ago and had no intention of upgrading this soon, but is there some compelling reason to make the jump to the 7, or is it just the latest incremental improvement in the line?

These are really good trade-in options! After trading my S21 for an iPhone 14 Pro, I can't wait to come back but I need some hands-on review time from the pixel before I pull that trigger.

Mostly incremental, IMO. Slightly better camera, slightly faster, slightly better screen, etc. Smartphones are a pretty mature product at this point.

That said, that's a hell of a trade in deal, IF you can make use of the $200 Google Store credit. If you plan on getting a Nest camera or some earbuds or something, go for it. But if there's nothing you really need, you're going to end up spending it just to spend it. Ask me how I know.... laugh

I'm mainly doing it as my Pixel 6 has been wonky ever since I got it, no amount of tweaking with settings or factory reset and reinstalling seem to make it not weird. Not sure how to describe it. It's the only Google phone that has acted inconsistent on me in 6+ years of using Google phones.

I would have done it just for the trade-in, the extra $200 for the Google store was just icing on the cake. Leaning toward a smart thermostat since we don't have one yet.

When I finally picked up a Nest, it ended up saving us something like $40 a month in heating/cooling bills just from adjusting to our schedules. Well worth it, IMO.

Newbe question... what's a pixel phone?

my first "smart phone" around '09 was a leftover I4. Then a 6, only cause I broke the 4. Lost the 6; got a used android. Big P. O. S. (But used so...)  now have an SE. Had a company I8 for a bit, and recently a 12 for a few weeks.
Liked the 12 a bit better than my SE, but would not pay for the difference.
Is the Pixel a different os, or just a brand with android?

While $271 for my 3 XL is certainly nothing to sneeze at, and $41 more than I paid for it, it still does the Phone Stuff I need it to do very well (basically photos and vidyeas), and the fingerprint sensor is better than all of the new(er) ones I checked out back in February when I bought to replace my much-loved 3a that went underwater and became incredibly glitchy.   I would like to have more confidence in the 7 series, but $328 for a brand new, several generations advanced phone with 5G is very tempting.  There is no way I can risk the $628 difference for the Pro, however.

While I really hate to buy two phones in less than a year, I am also really tempted by the 7 at this point, due to my 3 XL's lack of 5G, and the loss of updates and security.

Time to do some research...

Pixel is Google's mobile ecosystem, like Apple's iOS ecosystem. Android is the OS (Samsung, LG, OnePlus, Pixel, Xiaomi, etc. all have their own versions of varying quality), but Pixel is the hardware exclusive to Google.

We don't really have "schedules" since we both work from home. I suspect the best way we could save is letting heat drop at night and having it turn back on right before we wake up. Won't work during the summer as I can't sleep when it's 80 in the house. And July/August, we have to keep the AC cranking 22 hours a day, so letting it warm up overnight, just means it's even warmer all day.

I am curious if letting the house cool way down while we are asleep, then fire back up in the morning is really saving anything? All the thermal mass cooling down? I don't know, I've never experimented with it.

If you of you Pixel lovers want to get rid of your way old outdated Pixels so that you can get the latest and greatest I might be interested.  I currently have a Pixel 3 and it's find but the battery life is going way down.

The old phone has to be mailed back to Google for this deal.

After some research and deliberation, I just pulled the trigger for a 7 because Google offered $271 for my 3 XL that I bought for $230.   Hopefully any issues with the new phone that may arise will be able to be cleared up in software updates.

Battery can be replaced for @$80 at a cell phone repair place. I had one replaced last week.

That's a hell of a deal.

I just checked, here in Canada the base Pixel 7 is $799, and they're only offering a $100 store credit. The trade in value of my Pixel 4 XL with zero issues is $110.
I'm hanging on the the 4 because I still have unlimited free Google Photo uploads in standard quality.

I just got a 6A about a month ago, and weirdly, they won't even give a trade option for it. Maybe because it's considered the current gen entry level phone?

That is ridiculous as we are trading a 4 XL and should get $325 US for it.

Thanks for the heads up. We traded a Pixel 4 XL and an Iphone 11 for 2 7s and will end up paying around $300 plus tax for a pair of new phones that aren't 4 years old or garbage!

Man that's tempting, pixel 7 for less than my current 4a cost. And I don't totally hate the idea of putting the store credit towards a fitness tracker. But it's a lot of money to spend to replace something that works totally fine and I'm happy with. ...maybe if this deal is still going towards the end of winter when I've recovered from all the reckless spending this autocross season. I'm also not really interested in a larger phone, though it looks like it wouldn't be a huge change.
