Variation of the topic. I dodged a bullet at birth because my flower power, hippy dippy parents came darned close to naming me "Sunshine".

I had a girlfriend in high school who was named Susan. Her dad said he really wanted a boy, so he named her Sue. I'm not sure she thought that was as funny as he did.

My dad wanted to name me Jesus Thor. Thankfully he came down from that trip in time.
I was almost Jeremiah. Our last name is Johnson. My dad had a thing for Robert Redford back in the 70s.
I am noticing a different naming trend ... seems like alot of people I work with (age range ~ 30 - 55 or so) now are insisting on being called by their "formal" full first name. So the guy called Dave for the last 22 years that I have known, worked, and had beers with now insists on David, Steve insists on Stephen, and Joey now goes by Joseph. What the heck is this all about ??
1- I've known Chuck for years. His wife gives him a hard time when he doesn't insist on Charles.
2- I am Jim. My two best friends in school were Jim. I have an employee named Jamie. Can't get away from James and its derivatives.
3- My new grandson is Clark Arthur. Both low on the modern popularity scale, I bet.

My sister knew two brothers named Jupiter and Sol. I have cousins named Kestrel and Sequoia, both boys...I always thought Sequoia was a rather feminine-sounding tree, shoulda been something more manly like Spruce, rhymes with Bruce
thankfully I was named after my late grandfather. It could be a lot worse, I have cousin who's name is Joel, sounds ok, until you realize it is a contraction of his parent's names
I never met another Wendell until I went in the army. Knew 4 others Wendell's in the army and one is still a good friend. My dad chose Wendell because it starts with a W. My family doesn't do the junior thing, we do initials. My grandfather was William L. My dad was Wayne L and I'm Wendell L. I have a son named Warren L. but has a different last name now, his mother changed his last name to her maiden name when we divorced when he was young. My son-in-law thought I ought to have someone named after me and his second son is named Wendell Lee Kelley Ross, we call him Lee to differentiate from me. Don't know about the 2 middle name thing though.
My sisters name is ecco, ive yet to meet another one. My wife on the other hand is jennifer and ive met a few. we know 3 courtneys and my sons hang out with aiden, kayden, kyler and tyler!

I went to school with about a million Joes, the same for Tom, Jim, Bob, Pete, etc. My son has zero of them. THere are some dangerous Joshuas, Nathans, Conners and one badass Pasquale though just looking for a Tristan or Trevor to lay a beat down on.
Well crap I named my son Tristan.... I guess he better learn to defend himself.
My wife is Sarah, my first daughter is Selah. Should not have done that.
There's now 3 selahs in our friend circle. Rediculous.
When I was born my name (Harold) was 27th. Now it ranks 803. Fine by me.
My nickname, which I have always used to avoid confusion with my father, was 433 when I was born and fell off the chart in 1975 and has not returned.

I have a cousin named Xavier, which was fine, until his mom admitted he's named after the Professor from X-men. Can't un-know that.
My best friend's parents were Terry and Terrie. Very confusing when someone would call and ask to speak to "Terry". They were just Mr. or Mrs. [last name] to me.

I went to college with a female Sequoia. Seemed fine to me.
My cousin is River Wood. Probably not something I would have chosen.....
My wife and I went with Rowan for our son, after much debate. She really liked Conor but I didn't want him to be an MMA fighter.

Want to see the top 1000 names for a given year? If you're like me, you'll find it really interesting. https://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ And BTW, Aiden has been in the top 20 for a decade. Emily has always been popular, including a run at #1 from 1996 to 2007 and has been top 10 ever since. Neo never made it into the top 1000.
Thanks. I will now use this give my child an obtuse name.

I have been a Mitchell all of my life. Mitch never really suited me.
