I have a manfrotto that set me back $80 or so. Aluminum so it's light, but it's rugged enough to use as a walking stick. I'd heavily recommend.

Never saw the benefit of a monopod. I mean, it doesn't even stand up by itself!

I'm very happy with our Manfrotto tripod, so here's another vote for them.

monopods are a must if you want to visit DC. It is illegal to use Tripods there

I have an REI collapsible shock absorbing walking stick that doubles as a monopod. The cork ball top unscrews and you can either screw the camera directly on or fit a head if you want.

I got a $20-ish Dolica from Amazon. It does the job. It's a monopod, there's not much to them....

Another vote for Manfrotto. I use mine frequently.

I got a stupid cheap Manfrotto aluminum piece from Wally-world on sale the other day for 20 bucks. It's waifish and won't hold a lot of weight, but it's small and lightweight, which makes it perfect for my upcoming trip to Le Mans.
