Thanks everyone.

The pay thing is my biggest concern, honestly. Thats a grand a month after taxes. Not including the loss of pto, insurances, 401k, etc.

I think, based on everything you guys are saying, that id be good at it. Hell, i already do it in the mental health side with doing homeless people transitions to independent housing and arranging services on bothe medical and mental health while meeting timelines and budgets and managing all the services and vendors that entails.

I do not have the trade specific experience though. Nor do i have the lingo for that trade. But i do think i have the talent.

The job ad was salaray at 35-45k listed.

How ballsy can i be? With this being a small 50ish person company who's owner is also the sales guy and lead on everything, im not going up against a corporation or board of directors, im going against the guy whos banking his retirement on me....

If it is construction PMing in NC, learn as much Spanish as you can.

Also, that salary range is LOW unless they're going to be paying for you to get certifications and there is an incredible bonus structure in place.

I agree with over 95% of what had been said since my reply to you I've worked over 90 separate contracts since 97. Met a couple of good PM's. Most were described by the gentleman that mentioned them shopping  for corvettes...

Also when you tell him your current salary, with way less responsibilities, do NOT ask him if he can get close. TELL him you really want the extra responsibilities when he gets above your current. wink

And you don't need to know the trades  experience, the guys you hire need that. You just have to be good a leading people (herding cats, in this case) and knowing who actually knows, and who is faking it till they ( never )make it.

Yeah, it’s lowball no doubt.   Take the on the the job training, make contacts and move on if the money doesn’t improve rapidly in 6-12 months?  I think you’ll pick it pretty quickly based on your previous work and make some good contacts.   It’s not rocket science, it’s organization and focusing on the details.   I’m not in tune with the NC job market but a good a PM here in the Boston market is a 6 digit gig all day.   Maybe counter at $50K to try and soften the blow?  Good luck, I hate to see good people dealing with this garbage after all we’ve been through in the past year and a half.

We used a recruiter to hire a salesperson and he ran blind ads not telling us the details.  Just bring us the people.

We offer a guy $65,000 for year one only for him to insist on $70,000.  It's commission so after that he'll make it up down the road.

He tells us the recruiters ad stated $70-$80,000 and that's his reasoning.  I felt like an idiot
