So has anybody played one of these "Modern Player" teles? Seems like it might be right up my alley.
Gabe got me thinking about a humbucker Tele. Damn him.
Oh yeah? I'm guessing he meant in the neck position though. I know that boy ain't recommending anything not made in North America.
I forget the exact setup, but he was telling me how a Squire humbucker Tele can easily become a baritone.
Here is my latest addition :)
(joined the 7-string club...now I can play some of the Bach Cello Suites that go down to C)
RG7620 that I got for a pretty good price on the Bay
Plays pretty well.
It's amazing how being 1.5lbs heavier than my 6 string guitars feels like such an enormous difference.

Ransom, you shoulda given me a holler. I coulda pointed you to the best places for Gretsch (better prices, and it gets to you when they say it will)
D'oh, missed this. Not that it would have made any difference at that juncture anyhow, but, um... Well, thanks anyhow! I'd take the info anyhow. Somewhere in the distant future is a green Double Anniversary for me...
My guitar did eventually show up, one day later than theorized. Mercifully, it was still on my porch when I got home; USPS was supposed to get a signature, but they decided not to be sticklers this time...
Plays great, sounds great. The only issue I have is that it's rather quiet. At an amp setting that would deafen everyone living on the same block with my Seymour Duncan Invader-equipped LP copy, the Gretsch is... at a decent level for band practice. I don't think I've ever had the master volume on the Twin Reverb up at four in an enclosed space before (individual channel volume pegged)...
I wouldn't even care. That thing is BEAUTIFUL.
I'm trying to talk a friend out of his white Ibanez RoadBass he has kicking around. It needs solder work and some serious de-crudding (covered in stickers). He claims that he wants it and wants me to fix it, but I want it more than him. It's been sitting at his parents' place for around 10 years. I know he bought it for $70 way back then, and it worked when he bought it. I've wanted a white RoadBass after playing one at summer camp back in the day.
It sounds crazy, but I am thinking about trading him my Ibanez SR400 for it. It has active electronics and sounds/plays good, but it's green. He just wants a working bass.

These threads always make me want to learn to play guitar just so i can have a pretty guitar.
I think the first thread on here that did that to me was Alex's paisley Strat. That E36 M3 was seriously cool.

Knowing how to play is no excuse. Trust me. The quiver of guitars I have is proof of that...

That's rad. Big dude, big bass. Very cool.
I'm at the point where I have no interest in gear. I have "my sound" and I've had it for 15 years or so. Thus, I'm set in that dept.
Inspiration is what I want and that can't be bought.

Yeah, same here. Every lesson reminds me how little I know.

Yeah, that's why I stick to punk rock. I mostly just try to impact the guitar at the same time the drummer is doing something noisy

E36 M3balls. I'm supposed to be building a car that "rocks" or something, aren't I?

Yep.
Thanks for the poke. I want that damned guitar. I got some idears...
As much as I love the look of a PRS, I never liked the way they felt when I played them :(
Makes me sad, they are such beautiful guitars (the fancy Les Pauls too).
I need big frets, and bare unfinished or satin-finished necks :P

ACtion photo from about 2000, maybe 2001. I'm the guy in the blue shirt on the left. That's my cool little Hamer Les Paul Special copy (Studio Special?). This was our college cover band's bar of residence - we played there about every 3 weeks and I was a bouncer/doorman the rest of the time. It was hysterical.
I'll have to add a couple of not-from-a-1.2MP(remember when they put decimal places on megapixels??)-digicam pictures when I get back home.

So, just for S&G, which would rock more, in your opinion?
- A mustang, black, little bit of warmed over, cranking Styx.
- A Chevy Long Bed pickup with a impromptu band performing in the back?
- Some kind of project car.

A couple of months ago, I played with 4 of the 5 guys from my college band. First time we shared a stage in 19 years (Earth Day 1994) It was for the singer and guitarist's joint 40th birthday party (they were told they were playing a 90's night for a private party, which turned out to be theirs)
I'm in the middle, playing a borrowed PRS. We played Smashing Pumpkins "Cherub Rock"

I owned a PRS for awhile. While going from the 24.75" scale of my Gibsons to the 25.5" scale of my Strat doesn't bother me, the 25" scale of a PRS did... Damned if I could explain why. The Carvin TL60 I had for awhile was the same way. And for some reason, the PRS couldn't sustain a fretted G (or natural harmonic G) to save its life. Weird.
I think this may be the only pic I have of me actually playing one.
Obviously, I was really struggling with that cowboy chord.

Definitely 3...the one I'm bringing.
I figured this was as good a place as any to put this. Any of you guys knowledgeable on the subject of "high-gain" heads?
I've been shopping around lately. Should've pulled the trigger on one of those 90's Lee Jackson designed Ampeg VL 1002 for sale locally. A buddy in High School had one and I LOVED the way that thing sounded. There are a couple really killer deals on JCM800's locally, but from my understanding, they're kind of a one-trick-pony. I probably need something with at least 2 channels that doesn't need to be cranked to 11 before it has any teeth.
Any suggestions? There's a couple of Mesa solo and duel rectifiers for sale locally, as well as a pile of 5150's. Would like to stay under a grand, and need something with that big modded-marshall sound, but with a little more versatility.

Carvin? It does seems like a lot of current metal players are using 5150 variants. Otherwise, I'm not sure... I have an old ADA MP-2 with matching ADA power amp for serious high-gain stuff, but I mostly use a 70's Dual Showman head with pedals for gain now.
I learned a couple of years ago that all of the bands I knew that used JCM800's and got a great sound were running heavily modded amps.
In reply to poopshovel:
You might look into a Carvin X100B. I don't have one, and am no expert, but that's about at the top of my list. Wish I could name other users, but Roach from the Groovie Ghoulies played through one, and that's the sound I'm most familiar with from it, but I gather it's supposed to do a good Fender-y cleaner sound, and is switchable between 25/50/100 watts, hopefully allowing access to what it can do without police intervention.
